Greetings!

"What a difference a couple of

Clematis on Arbor
Clematis

months can make" was the start of the last newsletter.  I had the same thoughts as I started this newsletter.  We've gone from a black and white landscape with two feet of snow to new blooms of every color popping out each day.  I do believe it is the prettiest spring I've ever seen!!  It is humbling to know that the Mother Nature that brings us such delicate flowers can also send us tsunamis, floods and tornados.   We do hope you have felt her gentle touch this spring and if not that you have at least come through ok.

If you would like to see more of our blooms click on the Clematis picture to go to our Flickr pics.  The forest is also putting on quite a show.  We took Loe-D and Leona up to Graveyard fields last Friday and the pink wild azaleas were in full bloom  on the Blue Ridge Parkway at Mt. Pisgah along with fields of Trilium. Then on Saturday

Jodee and I biked at Kitasuma trail near Old Fort  and the  Rose Bay Rhododendrons just covered  the entire mountain.   It was beyond beautiful.    I forgot my camera both trips so you will just have to trust me.    The Mountian Laurels are about to open up and soon after that the Catawba Rhododendrons will take over.  The ones around here are covered in buds so we are expecting a good year for them.

 Projects and Maintenance Update

The Lodge looks almost new again.  We have all but finished the re-staining of the exterior along with the decks and porches.  There is just a few pickets and posts left.  The hardest part may have been choosing the stain from half a dozeFresh paint on the lodgen brands, an overwhelming choice of colors, then whether to go with Clear, Woodtone, Semi-Transparent, Semi-Solid, or Solid.   Luckily, when Behr had a "Buy three get one free" sale  that settled the brand choice.  I was really leaning toward Semi-transparent, you know how I love the look of wood, but when I found that the colors I chose came in five gallon buckets only in solid that made that choice easy.  That saved $150 instead of $35.  It came out really good and covered the knots, carpenter bee and woodpecker hole patching and crack caulking.  Fate also smiled on me as I was checking out.  The friendly smiling face of Daniel Catillo approached me and my overflowing cart of painting supplies and asked if I would be needing any help.  It turned out to be a very good opportunity for both of us as I would have been painting till next Christmas without him and his friend.

Our Beloved Groups

Group reservations have been a growing part of our

The Law Lyndons

business from the start and this year it looks like we will have more than ever.  We love them and feel like we have learned how to balance the needs of a group with the needs of other guests.  We have really embraced our groups whether they are here for business, birthdays, weddings, or just to have fun and reconnect with friends.  Many of them have been coming back so many times over the years that they certainly feel like family.

The Professors

So far this year we have hosted business retreats for the Biltmore Estate, The Mercury Gate Co. from Cary and the Corning Cable Systems Co.  Also our friends and regulars the Law Lyndons, The Professors from Carbondale, and Bev & Andrea and the gang have been here and booked for next year.  New groups like the Norton family have gathered here and we hope they become regulars.  Next week the Tandem Mountian Bike Riders are here for their third year.

Coming up we have everything from 90th birthday celebrations to first time weddings for the Barilles, the Grosses, the Congers, the Arledges, and the Cromeens.

One of the real treats for groups is to have a private dinner with us.  Jodee really goes all out to create a meal that is both beautiful and delicious.  From the meal they can then transition at their own pace to conversations around glasses of wine or coffees, the pool table or cigars on the front porch.  So think about us the next time you are considering getting family, friends, or business associates together.

Sincerly,
