Winter Projects and Maintenance |
Of course winter is always a good time for projects around the lodge. Greg Casey, our landscape helper, and I just finished (except for the door, the shelves and moving in) a new outbuilding for our tools and other garage overflow. Before that, I made and installed a new, four foot wide vanity for the Wildflower bath to replace the pedestal sink. It gives you plenty of room to put all that stuff needed to feel good, look good and smell good! Last week I had to revisit that room because the hot water quit working on the whirlpool tub. Now that was a mystery the plumber couldn't even quite figure out. Today Sterling Haynie and his crew came and took out 3 dead pine trees, a dying oak tree and one that was leaning suspiciously far over my new compost bin. I was really tempted to put the chainsaw to all of those myself but after 32 years of "I told you so's!" I'm finally getting a little more wary, if not smarter. So, the bill for this unexpected clearing will no doubt put a dent in some of my other project plans. At least it will add a big addition to my firewood supply, now if I only had a place to put it. As soon as it warms up a little I plan to start restaining the outside of the lodge whenever the weather and occupancy allows. It's the first time in 10 years. Fortunately we originally chose a stain the color of weathered wood. Come check out the progress whenever you get the chance. |
Luhn House Owners in the News |
We are really proud of our frineds and part time neighbors, the Luhns. Marcia is one of the owners of LifeStyle Homes in Melbourne FL. and her son Jake is the CEO. LifeStyle Homes was selected by the award winning, hit reality show "Extreme Makeover Home Edition" to spearhead the monumental effort required to construct a brand new, fully custom home in a week's time for the deserving Hurston family! As if that wasn't difficult enough it is also a NetZero energy home. It will produce as much energy in a year's time as the home consumes. The home was completed on Saturday, Jan. 15, under the direction of Jake Luhn, in just more than 106 hours. Missionaries Joe and Cindy Hurston and their three children who still live at home (they have eight) were sent to San Diego for a vacation while construction was completed. It was an amazing project that pulled the entire Spacecoast community together. You can click on any of the three pictures for different stories about the project. The show is suppose to air Feb. 13th. Hope you can watch it. |
