Greetings!
 Tandem Riders
We hope you are enjoying the start of summer. Maybe we haven't made it to the official solstice date but it feels like summer here; the days are warm, the roses are blooming and there have been quite a few folks here lately.  We hosted the Southeastern Off Road Tandem Rally May 21st and 22nd. There were 11 couples staying at the Lodge and the Luhn house and another 15 couples camping or staying at other places. Some of the riders were repeats from our first tandem event in 2001, like  the Rubinsteins, (ages 69 & 70) who rode 25 mi. day one and 12 mi. the next. We met up with most of them on a ride out at Bent Creek on Sunday.  They were all awesome riders.

Then Memorial Day Weekend arrived and well over half of the guests were repeats and most of them had been here several times.   It was like a reunion.  I went on an epic bike ride with  guests Gary & Cathleen Miller, Jodee and I both rode with Chris and Ann Givens and we have had the privilege of joining folks for dinner on a few occasions.  This job is just too much fun sometimes!
We sure like it when it is busy but the next couple of weeks have some openings so we created one of our best specials yet to kick off the summer.  Check it out on our SPECIALS PAGE

The Original Bent Creek Lodge

The Original Bent Creek Lodge
Original lodge
Some of you probably know that when we tried to incorporate we discovered that there had been another Bent Creek Lodge before us. It operated as a dude ranch in the 40's to the 60's off Bent Creek Ranch road which is a neighborhood now.  It was a big sprawling place with a pool, tennis courts and horses of course.  After it stopped operating it became the neighborhood community center.  Unfortunately, the building burnt to the ground in the early 90's and the property is now a park.   We have had  a number of people that worked at the old lodge come by to check us out and make sure we were living up to the reputation of the original lodge.  One of our neighbors recently sent us photos of the original lodge that are quite interesting.  One of the photos she sent was a clipping from a newspaper article with a caption that quotes from their 1947 brochure; "The Ranch caters only to the better class gentile clientele and reservations are made with this understanding. We reserve the right to decline reservations of anyone who in our opinion would be incompatible."   Now we know a little more about that "reputation".  Thank goodness times have changed.  You can see the other photos on our Facebook page by clicking on the photo.

It's Time for Another Photo Contest

We would like to see more of your photos about the Lodge so lets

have another Photo Contest.  Email us photos that represent the lodge in a recognizable way.  We will choose the top three for Gift Certificates of $185, $160 & $145 and feature them in the next newsletter.  Get them in by August 15th to be eligible for the prizes.  We look forward to seeing some great shots soon.

Plan Early for November

We aren't hosting the Mt. Trek fitness program this November as we have the last two years.  So please keep us in mind for the late fall get away or Thanksgiving family reunion.

Sincerly,
