Greetings!

We hope you are weathering the economic storm ok.  It seems everyone gets around to asking how Asheville and the Lodge are doing?  We both are getting along pretty well considering.  Like most places, Asheville has a lot of job seekers and real estate is not selling very fast.  However, the streets are still busy and the restaurants usually full.  In fact,  Posana Posana CafeCafe has just opened where Cafe on the Square used to be  and Rezaz is opening another restaurant this summer!!  This one will be Italian.  As school lets out and the Festivals begin Asheville will be a hopping place.   (click the photo to see Posana's site)

Speaking of storms, finally the rains came to Asheville last month!  May was the wettest one on record and it has left the mountains more lush than I can remember.  Jodee and I rode the Black Mt. Trail in Pisgah last week and the Mt. Laurel blooms were unbelievable.  The Rhododendron will be blooming soon, usually mid June.

Nevada Falls in YosemiteJodee and I also recently returned from giving our own stimulus package to the state of California.  We visited Yosemite, Big Sur and San Francisco.  My what a beautiful place! But after paying $30 to park along Fishermans Wharf we were glad to be back in Asheville.  Come see us and be sure to check for the special at the bottom of the page.

Asheville's Burlesque Festival is Big Event - June 12-14

ABSFest PerformersLike Asheville, some festivals are a little more different than others and the ABSFest is doing its part to keep Asheville "Weird".  Each summer, the Americana Burlesque and Sideshow Festival (ABSFest) brings the nation's top names in burlesque and vaudeville to Asheville for a weekend of sexy - but lighthearted - fun.  The three day festival includes workshops in everything from burlesque to bullwhip skills.  However, the real fun for most of us is "The Big Spectacular" at the Orange Peel on Saturday.  It's  a full night of delicious performance with award-winning artists from here and around the country.  You really need to click on the photo and "Browse the Artist".  I don't know how they will squeeze all of that into one night.  Burlesque is growing explosively and Asheville is a part of it.  Asheville now plays host to three Burlesque troupes, and innumerable artists involved in fire arts, circus and sideshow.  "Think Prohibition: hard times call for serious festivity".  This is going to be a night of fun.

More Fun with Asheville's Lazoom Comedy Tours

Lazoom bus"Definitely not your mamma's typical tour bus experience, LaZoom is Asheville's only rolling comedy tour bus. One of WNC's most unique "things to do," LaZoom's side-splitting odyssey to Asheville's favorite neighborhoods and landmarks spells quirky fun for both first-time visitors and long-time residents.  Each tour features a knowledgeable and witty tour guide, a heavy dose of corny jokes, and slapstick characters all along the way."

I haven't experienced this one myself yet, but it looks like it would be a hoot.

Guest Photos

Several guests continue to send us photos of their visit.  If you were one of them, I hopeLoe-D & Leona I managed to thank you because we love them!  I slipped a couple of guest's photos into this newsletter and will continue to do that as long as you keep sending them.  So keep an eye out for your photos and an announcement for another photo contest.  The original one was a lot of fun.  We will do another one soon.
