Greetings!

We hope you've had a great Thanksgiving and are looking forward to the rest of the holidays. For us there has been much to be thankful for.  Jodee and I have been doing well, October was Winter Headeras beautiful as any we can remember, many of you have continiued to come visit, and then November brought the new Mt. Trek fitness program to Bent Creek Lodge.  It has been a great success, with the guests  working hard, enjoying the trails and loosing weight!  How could they not.  They started their days with Yoga at 6:30, then hiked for 6 hours or so, and had exercise classes at night.  We prepared all of their meals.  Jodee added dishes like Kootenay Barley Soup and Captain Ainsworth stew to her repretoire.  For snacks she served them  winter headerMonster Juice, Bliss Balls and thin strips of Nori Seaweed. I must admit I began to miss you (our regular guests), the pecan waffles for breakfast, and the Cranberry bars on the counter.  But the good part is, even Jodee and I lost some weight. We are looking forward to our winter season and seeing all of you soon.

Asheville Winter Happenings
As the weather turns colder Asheville takes on a whole new atmosphere.  First there is the  excitement and hustle of the holidays.  One of the most popular events is always the Biltmore Estate with its magnificent Christmas decorations and candlelite tours.  Another wonderful way to get into the spirit of the holidays is to see the entries to the National Gingerbread House Competion at the Grove Park Inn.  You can see the display for free Monday thru Thursdays at the Grove Park Inn and 35 of the entries can be viewed at the historic Grove Arcade downtown during their regular business hours.  All over downtown holiday nights  get a glitzy makeover this December with "Asheville Seasonal Sizzle".  Merrymakers will enjoy free fireworks, live entertainment, seasonal appetizer specials at local restaurants, and extended hours of evening shopping in downtown Asheville's eclectic boutiques and craft galleries.  After the holidays the pace slows down and it is a great time to come relax and escape the crowds.  There are still those special events like the dance and music weekends at the Grove Park Inn. You can stay at Bent Creek Lodge, attend the events, save a bundle and be pampered here.   See the Links on the right for more information about all of these events.

Help us Help Others
Not everyone is so fortunate at this time, boy with bowl especially this year as the economy worsens.  Folks that never imagined they would have to ask for help to feed their families are being left with no other choice.  Manna FoodBank is one of the main agencies helping those in need in Western North Carolina.  It supplies food to more than 330 pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other such operations in 16 counties.  While the troubled economy has increased the need for help it has also caused donations to fall.  For the last several years we have given what we can to Manna and this year we would like to ask you to join us. For every $10 you donate, MANNA can generate enough food for 25 meals.   We will match every donation made with your reservation up to $100 until February 28.  (You can use our Winter Escape Special listed below and then donate your savings.)  When you make your reservation just ask us to add an amount to Manna FoodBank, or send a check to us payable to Manna FoodBank if you would like to receive a tax credit.  We will send the funds on to Manna with a matching amount from Bent Creek Lodge.  We will publish the final amount in our next newsletter.  Even if you aren't coming to visit please remember the need and help your own area's food center in any way you can.
Again we hope you found our newsletter helpful and with a response you could help us.  We are in the process of deciding on a couple of extra amenities for guest and would appreciate your feed back.  Would you let us know what you think about:
  1. Adding flat screen TV's to all the guest rooms
  2. Adding an outdoor hot tub

by contacting us at bentcreek@ioa.com and sharing your opinions.  And to plan your next stay, visit our website at www.bentcreeknc.com .
