 Build Better Passwords
As tempting as it is don't use the same password for all of your online accounts, if one account gets hacked all are put into jeopardy. No password is perfect, but you can improve yours with these simple tips.
1) Create a password "base" with a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and maybe a symbol or two. Just choose a phrase that's easy to remember.
2) Make sure it is at least 8 characters and avoid obviously memorable topics like proper names, birthdays and hometowns.
3) Avoid picking a single word and changing some of its characters to symbols; hacker tools can overcome that trick. Go for a passphrase-multiple words strung together- rather than a password, to defeat hackers working to crack your password by trying every word in the dictionary.
4) Now that you have a "base" password, use variants to unlock your accounts on any website. To create the strongest password possible, establish a simple naming pattern for generating a unique password at every website you visit.
For example you could use the first and fourth letter of the website's domain name capitalized in the middle of your passphrase.
An example passphrase is chicken alfredo.
The password would be:
Ch!cken@lfreD0
The Facebook account password would be:
Ch!ckenFE@lfreD0
The Amazon password would be:
Ch!ckenAZ@lfreD0

Something To Ponder
Recently a customer phoned in and made us aware of the fact that he was saving us money. We are thankful that this information was brought to our attention and thought we'd share with you.
Do you know that a toll-free number is not free? The owner incurs a fee each time the number is used. Because our customer has an unlimited calling plan he decided to call our local number as opposed to our toll-free number thus saving us the fee we would have incurred had he used our toll-free number.
Keeping costs down tends to be a goal for any business and many businesses pass their savings onto their customers. Perhaps the next time you get ready to dial that toll-free number you'll reconsider if you too have an unlimited calling plan. We could all use a little extra cash so why not help the next guy out? |
