Letter from the President
October 19, 2007

Dear Alumnae,

We are pleased to announce the creation of the Radcliffe Choral Society
e-mail newsletter as a new way of keeping you, our wonderful community of
alumnae, informed of RCS' activities.  In addition to our paper newsletter,
this electronic bulletin will be published several times a semester and will
share with you news of concerts, celebrations, and Choral Society
developments.  In this October newsletter you can read about our upcoming
summer tour to Costa Rica, view photos from our fall events, and check out
the year's concert calendar.  Please enjoy!

We want this newsletter to work for you, so please send any suggestions,
updates of your own, and questions to president@radcliffechoralsociety.org.
Thank you!Cara Ferrentino '08, Kay Leopold '09, and Nora Barr '10

Sincerely,

Cara Ferrentino '08

A look ahead to Summer Tour 2008

It's time for an RCS summer tour!!! After performing in the Harvard Commencement ceremonies in June 2008, RCS will head to beautiful Costa Rica, where we will sing with a number of schools and communities, while taking time to explore the natural landscapes and the beaches of both Costa Rican coasts. To learn more please visit our Costa Rica Tour Page at http://www.hcs.harvard.edu/~rcs/tour.html.  If you have any ideas or suggestions for our tour, please don't hesitate to contact Tour Manager  Stella Lee at tour2008@radcliffechoralsociety.org.

The Installation of President Drew Gilpin Faust

October 12
RCS had the honor of participating in the installation services of Harvard's 28th president, Drew Gilpin Faust. Having been personally invited by the President herself, RCS sang in the celebratory morning service at the Memorial Church. During the afternoon, RCS joined the rest of the Holden Choirs in performing for the official inauguration. A slide show of Friday's ceremonies can be found online and features a recording of RCS' morning performance of Duo Seraphim by Tomas Luis de Victoria.

October 13
RCS' busy fall semester also included a very special event entitled "Wine, Women, and Song." The first half of the evening featured nine current RCSers performing arias and art songs. Then, Assistant Conductor Kate Woolf, and guest performer Penelope Bitzas took the stage performing a variety of repertoire for solo voice. All performers were accompanied by Dr. Matthew Larson on the piano. The recital was followed by a lovely wine and cheese reception provided by the Harvard Women's Center, a cosponsor of the event. "Wine, Women, and Song" raised over $1,000 toward our trip to Costa Rica.
Looking for a way to help?

RCS recently purchased new formal dresses (more information available on our website), and we find ourselves in need of alterations as our November concert approaches. Do you have experience making alterations on dresses? Do you live in the Boston area? RCS could use your help! If you are interested in helping to alter some of RCS's new formal dresses please contact Emily at eppierce@fas.harvard.edu.

Do you have any contacts in Costa Rica? If you know anyone in Costa Rica or could help with lodging, concert venues, or ideas for activities in anyway please contact Stella at tour2008@radcliffechoralsociety.org.
