"The trick is learning to maintain an unwavering focus upon your desired end result, your completed dream, the "finish line," without insisting upon, or even contemplating, its means of attainment, no matter how logical, obvious, or tempting it may seem."

So what is IT?  Well, for each one of us it may mean something totally different.

The IT I am referring to are things you wish to have, to do or to become!  I would like you to take a moment and really put some thought into this.  Do you know what IT is for you?  Aaahhhh...the possibilities are infinite.  Don't limit yourself to what you already know.  There are also possibilities in what you don't know and even bigger possibilities in what you don't know you don't know.  Okay, did I lose ya!  In short, as Oprah says, "The Universe can dream a bigger dream for you than you can for yourself".  So don't worry about it

 Going for IT!

I just recently finished reading a very intriguing book that was written one hundred years ago.  The Science of Getting Rich is a success classic book written by Wallace D. Wattles in 1910. Wattles' work is considered a philosophy of Mental Science or Mind Science which may have preceded the New Thought movement. It's message has inspired more recent books such as The Secret, The Laws of Attraction, and the Power of Positive Thinking.

An NSA colleague, Anne Warfield, author of Outcome Thinking, Getting Results Without The Boxing Gloves, (another must read) suggested the book.  I was interested in reading The Science of Getting Rich because it is not only about money, it is also about how to live your life to get the results you desire in business and life!  Along the way, if you just so happen to get rich, well...maybe that's not the end of the world either!

There were 8 fundamentals that I took away from the book.

1.  The universe is filled with stuff from which all things are made.

2.  We create things from what we form in our thoughts.

3.  Be creative not competitive to be in harmony with God

4.  Practice feeling gratitude daily for all that you already have.

5.  Create a clear mental image of the things you wish to have, to do to become, while being grateful to God that all desires are granted.

6.   Have unwavering faith and belief that you will succeed at your goals.

7.  Do everyday all that can be done that day.  Do not overwork, rush blindly or worry about tomorrow.  It is the efficiency of each separate action today that counts.

8.  Give to every person a use value in excess of the cash value you receive, so that each transaction enriches the life of that person.

In this newsletter, I would like address 2 of the 8 fundamentals. They are key action pieces to achieve

business success!
          Mom & Dad 60th Anniversary
1.  Do everyday all that can be done that day.  Do not overwork, rush blindly or worry about tomorrow.  It is the efficiency of each separate action today that counts.

Make your actions count by focusing only on the action you are currently doing.  Once completed, continue on to the next most important action for the day.  I believe multi-tasking is just another way of doing many things mediocre.

Do not stress and try to do tomorrow's work, nor to do a week's work in a day.  It's not the number or quantity of things you get done, but the effectiveness of each separate action that is important.  It is not about the speed of checking each item of the list.  It is the about effectiveness of each item you check off the list.  In other words your results.  Every act is, in itself, either a success or a failure.  Every act is, in itself, either effective or inefficient.

For example, let's say your job is to call hygiene patients and treatment patients to schedule outstanding treatment.  It is not about how many you call, but instead it is about how effective you were with each call.  How many people did you actually schedule?  Sure, maybe you can call 20 people really quick and leave a canned message telling them they are overdue and it's time to schedule.  Or...you can motivate and inspire them to schedule an appointment based on their needs and the benefits.

2.  Give to every person a use value in excess of the cash value you receive, so that each transaction enriches the life of that person.

Just imagine, if every time you offered a service or product to someone, the value they received from it far outweighed their cost.  How much business and referrals do you think you would get?  Wow, seems like a pretty easy formula to success!  Easy money!

Or is it?....Here's where it gets tricky.  Key phrase to remember, it's not about you!  It all depends on what they value, and not what you think they value.   The only way you can find that out is by focusing on them and their needs.  Ask questions until you know the answers.  So, the next time you are going to offer a service or product to someone, ask them what's important to them, what are their goals, or desires, or the outcome they are looking for and don't assume!  After all, we all know what that makes...!

Situation:
We are a two doctor general practice.  Our doctor's try to avoid doing the hygiene checks.  They tell the hygienists they are busy, and to go ask the other doctor.  What do suggest I do to resolve this situation?

Solution:
Steps to resolution:
Meet with the doctors together and share the following information.  It is important for them to realize that hygiene exams are not an inconvenience or interruption in their day and they should not treat them as such.   They are really the backbone of their practice.

Many practices spend tons of money and effort marketing to get new patients.  When in most practices, new patients make up only approximately 20% of the treatment production.  The other 80% comes from the hygiene schedule of existing patients.  So the next time they are tempted to rush through their hygiene check, or pawn it off on another doctor, remind them to keep in mind, they are their bread and butter!
