Practicing Solutions

     Red Solution

Situation:

How do I inspire a team member whose performance was excellent and now seems to coast.  She is has been with our practice for many years?

Solution:

Steps to resolution:

First, have team meeting to establish the year's goals and objectives for the practice.  What I call a Vision Meeting.  As a team discuss who does what, when, where, why and how.  Define the roles and how to's.  Practice verbal skills, role-playing and the entire walk thru.  Practicing will empower the entire team to feel confident to implement all the new ideas, systems, and protocols.  Every member on the team, including the coaster, now know what is expected and how to accomplish their role.

Next, reserve time daily for huddles or what I call accountability meetings.  They enable the team to talk about what's working and what's not regarding their new roles and resolve any issues on a daily basis.

Your team coaster will elect to once again become a team member or face team pressure.

First Impressions

I have been asked repeatedly how to prevent or overcome burnout at work.  In most cases, people like/love their job; they just don't feel the spark!

I am dedicating this month to igniting the spark, energy, passion, or my personal favorite go-juice for life!  Not to be confused with beetle juice....!

Personal Inspiration

Last month we talked about attitude and starting your day out with a positive attitude to set a positive tone for the day.

Congratulations, you started out your day positive.  It's now 9:30 AM, your day has just fallen apart and your positive attitude has gone out the window.

No matter what you want to call it, spark, energy, passion, or go-juice, how do you keep it when life seems to put up roadblocks and nothing seems to go your way?  Or does it?

We each write our own story.  Our story is not only what we can make happen or control.  More importantly, it is how we respond or react to the events that we did not plan for in life.  Each time we engage and embrace the bumps and roadblocks and succeed, we feel empowered and energized.  That energy creates our get up and go in life.  We try more, do more, challenge more and achieve more.  Go-juice comes from the learning and the growing from life's bumps and roadblocks!

I just finished reading the most amazing book on finding your natural energy what I refer to as your go-juice, "Top Performer; A Bold Approach to Sales & Service" by Carr Hagerman and Stephen Lundin.  It is applicable to all professions.  You can purchase it by e-mailing [email protected].  A few of my favorite excerpts:

You are accompanied by your need for quick answers and quick fixes, and the comfort of routine thinking.  But by trying to make new ideas conform to old ways of thinking you will miss the juice.  So keep your margins wide and your options open.  Remember the "juice is in the jam" not in the routine.

Every "jam" is different.  The rewards are huge when you skillfully handle a jam.  Hence, the "juice is in the jam."

Here are 5 steps to help you get your go-juice out of any jam.
  • Identify & change limiting beliefs regarding jams
  • Establish new goals (maybe jelly)
  • Develop a step-by-step action plan
  • Practice, practice, practice
  • Take the first step
Think about your day today.  Did an unexpected bump or "jam" happen today?  How did you react and handle it?  Did you learn and grow from it?

Did you find your juice in the jam, your go-juice?

Professional Inspiration

Do you ever feel like your get up and go, got up and went....when it comes to your job?

It's 8:05 on Monday morning and you're wondering how you are ever going to survive another 39 hours and 55 minutes of this work week.

Remember how you felt when everything was new and exciting.  You were so full of energy, passion and life.  You knew you were going to make a difference in the world.  Nothing could stop you.  You were up for any challenge; you even welcomed them because you had    go-juice!

Now those challenges have become the same old  routine, the same old grind.  How do we make it fresh again and ignite the spark, energy and passion?  How do we get our go-juice back?

It's time for a little TLC!
  • Tuning in
  • Learning
  • Connecting

Start by tuning into the moment.  Know and be aware of what is happening right now.  Worrying or focusing on the past or the future does not change anything.  Instead, it drains you of the energy you need, to think, act, and be present in the moment.  Focus only on what you need to achieve right now to be happy and enjoy this very moment.

Continuing to learn and grow are key to keeping things fresh and new.  Everyday happenings, reading books, and attending continuing education courses all provide new experiences and opportunities to learn and grow.

Connecting with others creates new energy and excitement regardless of how routine the task.  When we connect with others, we exchange energy.  The energy we exchange never happens the same way again. Therefore, each experience we have with others is fresh and new.
