I looked up the word HOPE in the dictionary today.  The definition read "the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best.  A few synonyms were, confidence, belief, optimism, anticipation, aspiration, desire and dream.  In today's world it seems many people have almost given up hope.  Could it be that things really are that hopeless or is it possibly because we are constantly flooded with all that is wrong in the world?  

 

 

I was recently doing a little research for a client I was consulting on recruiting.  As I was looking up the CPI (Cost of Living) under the U.S. Department of Labor, I found information dating back to 1913.  Interestingly enough, 2008 was not the worst inflation year we have ever faced.  In fact there were 26 years where the CPI was higher.  Three of the highest previous years were 1918 at 20.4%, 1946 at 18.1%, and 1974 at 12.3%.  There were 28 years between 1918 and 1946, 28 years between 1946 and 1974, and 34 years between 1974 and 2008.  Hmmm..... is this some sort of pattern or cycle?  If it is it seems we are doing remarkably well at approximately 4.1% inflation.  After 1918, 1946 and 1974, we not only survived we also grew and prospered.   We must surely be able to do at least the same if not more after 2008. 

 

 "For your wildest dreams to come true you must have wild dreams".
