 Celebrating
 Change

You've said it before..."This year will be different."  But WILL it?  Make 2008 YOUR year to change.  Learn more, do more, become more!  We are excited to offer this newsletter to help inspire and empower our readers to show their inner shine!

First Impressions

Did you know that it is the Chinese Year of the Rat?   The Year of the Rat is always a time of great change.   Is change positive or negative?  Many people fear change and believe it is scary and bad.  Sure it can make us feel uncomfortable because of what is unknown.  However, it is necessary in order to continue to grow.  Without change, life would lose its excitment and become stagnant.  The truth is change is neither positive or negative, it is just change.  It is our attitude towards the change which makes it so.

As long as this is the case why not declare change as positive?

When you embace change as positive, life's little adjustments will become something to look forward to instead of something to overcome.  Another exciting new path just waiting for you to explore!
Personal Inspiration

How do you feel when change comes your way?  Do you feel that change is opposition  and it can't be good?  Do you disregard and ignore it by not dealing with it.  Or are you excited to explore it and discover how to make it benefit you?

If we believe change is inevitable and is the one constant we can always count on, wouldn't it be in our best interest to figure out how we can make it work for us and for others?

Detour Sign
For example, when you are driving and see a detour sign due to road construction.  Do you become angry or uptight about having to take a different route than you had planned?  If you know you can't change the outcome why not treat the new route as an adventure to explore and see what is new that you would have missed on your normal route?  Your attitude will improve and you may actually enjoy your new route even better.

There is wisdom in the Serenity Verse. "Grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change.  The courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."

Every day we have the power and the opportunity to embrace the change that greets us and create something positive with it to give back to the world.

Let's start to Celebrate Change!

Professional Inspiration

Like the gardner, the effective leader recognizes that change takes time to take root.

Your role as a leader is always-always to keep your team motivated, optimistic, and ready to play full-out in the face of change.  It is important to communicate about any change in the most enthusiastic and positive way possible.  Otherwise, your team will believe the change you want to make is bad.  Your team must believe every change is made to improve the viability and success of the practice.  It's also important for your team to see what's in it for them.  Your team will begin to see change as a positive habit.  Change is only appreciated if it is meaningful or appreciated in the eyes of the beholder - Are your communications, your actions of relevance to your team?

"If we don't change the direction we are headed, we will end up where we are going"
 - Chinese Proverb

Unless the team has clearly defined goals, the "path of least resistance" will almost always be the path they take.
  • Determine where you are now with whatever it is you want to improve
  • Set realistic goals for improvement
  • Monitor results on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
Morning huddles are an ideal venue to talk about how things are going on a daily and weekly basis.  Staff meetings are great for discussing as a team what the next new change in procedures or protocols should be.
                   Changes Sign
In real estate they always say its all about location, location, location.  Well with change it's all about reinforce, reinforce, reinforce.  The best way to do this is by asking yourself;  How do I keep it simple?  Less is always more.  How can I make it memorable?  How many times can I communicate it on a daily, weekly, monthly basis?

Getting your team to believe it can be done is the most important thing you can do.  It may not happen over night, but through continuous reinforcement, listening, encouragement and most of all earning their trust, it will happen.

So plant the right seeds, respect the growing process, and watch great things happen!
Enhancing your personal and professional image can inspire connections, build relationships and create WOW experiences.  Will 2008 be just another 12 months in your life, or will it be the year that turns your life around?  Let us help you awaken your inner shine and not just make it a GREAT year but an EXTRAORDINARY year!  In fact, the best year of your life.
