Greetings!

This month's issue is about email marketing; an effective branding tool to keep your product or company top-of-mind with your customers.  When executed correctly, email marketing can distribute welcomed, targeted messages that inform, enlighten and engage the reader.

If you're not using this economical and environmentally friendly way to communicate with your customers (current and potential) you may be missing an important piece of your overall marketing strategy.

Maximize Response To Your Email Marketing
Airline PilotIt's refreshing when a company seems to get it right, and DJ Waldow explains why email messages from US Airways impress him on a regular basis. Here's what sets them apart:

A healthy mix of "boring" and "fun" subject lines. Some messages come with an informational subject line.   Others grab the reader's attention with a more lighthearted tone.
An irregular broadcast schedule. Vary your frequency and cadence of emails-as appropriate-to keep your readers interested.
A helpful level of personalization. Every message from the airline's Dividends program includes his member number.
A header with links that point to correct landing pages.  A surprising number of email links go to a homepage, regardless of their label.

The Point: Give your messages wings. Following a few reader-friendly practices like these may make your email campaigns take off!

The New Paper or Plastic
Email vs. Mail"Digital-or-Print" is the new "Paper-or-plastic,'" says Doug Stern in an article at MarketingProfs. "So, when is it more appropriate to stick a stamp on a marketing message ... than hit the Send button?" Before you make your decision, he recommends asking questions like these:

What Does The Customer Prefer?
How Much Is It Worth To Stand Out?
Is It Really Either/Or?
Is Anybody There?

Choosing between digital and print options means weighing which is most effective for each and every campaign, Stern concludes.

Bring Deliverability and Design Together for Email Marketing Success

emailDelivering Results:  Keeping a clean list is very important. Too many hard bounces (email addresses that do not exist any more) can hurt your reputation with the ISPs.  Keep in mind that the worst thing you can do to build your email list is to harvest emails from Web sites; moreover, doing so is a flagrant violation of the CAN-SPAM act.

Design As Important As Content:  Aesthetically pleasing email will greatly improve your chances of achieving your email marketing goals-including click-through-rates (CTR) and conversions. If you can combine good email design for spam filters as well as aesthetically pleasing email for your audience, you have a recipe for success.

Email marketing can be hard work, but when done well, it yields the highest ROI of any marketing tactic.
