| Cool Experiment |
 |
| Lemon Juice "Rocket"
You will need:
An empty, 16 oz plastic soda or water bottle
A cork that fits the water bottle tightly. Wrap cork in tape if needed.
Toilet Paper
Lemon Juice
Baking Soda
Scissors
Water
Funnel
Safety Glasses
You will want to do this experiment outside.
1. Cut a small square out of toilet paper. Put about 1 teaspoon of baking soda in the middle of the square and fold in the sides to make a little packet.
2. Put the funnel into the opening of the bottle and pour lemon juice into the bottle up to about 1/2 inch.
3. Add water to the bottle until it is a little less than halfway full. Remove the funnel.
4. Put on your safety glasses. Drop the baking soda packet into the bottle, cork it and shake!
5. Put the bottle down and stand back!
The cork should shoot high into the air because the baking soda and lemon juice mix together to create carbon dioxide. As the carbon dioxide gas builds up in the bottle, the pressure will push the cork out of the bottle. |
