The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance/ Earned Income Tax Credit (VITA/EITC) Initiative ensures that working Rhode Islanders, earning less than $49,000 annually, can access free tax services in order to receive the money they are due in refunds and tax credits. VITA/EITC also includes raising public awareness and financial literacy workshops, covering topics such as general banking, housing issues, debt issues, predatory lending, higher education loans, and life insurance.
Annually, United Way of Rhode Island supports the VITA/EITC Initiative through its Community Impact Fund and community partners like Citizens Bank, Bank of America, the Walmart Foundation, community action agencies, and more than 100 volunteer income tax preparers across the state.
Last year, more than 7,000 working Rhode Islanders received a total financial benefit of nearly $13 million. Since 2005, more than $50 million in tax refunds, credits and free tax preparation services have been provided to thousands of working Rhode Islanders.
Thanks to your support, we are helping our fellow Rhode Islanders build a brighter future. |
