| Celebrate National 2-1-1 Day! |
|
February 11th (2-11) is National 2-1-1 Day! United Way of Rhode Island (UWRI) would like you to spread the word about a valuable service in our community called United Way 2-1-1 in RI.
2-1-1 is a FREE, confidential, multilingual/TTY hot-line offered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year which connects callers to resources in their communities.
So many people in our community need essential services or want to help others, but they don't know where to turn. 2-1-1 is an easy to remember telephone number that connects people with important community services and volunteer opportunities. Since the launch of 2-1-1 in June 2007, nearly one in every 10 Rhode Islanders has turned to 2-1-1 for help finding services they need.
2-1-1 is backed by a $500,000 yearly commitment from UWRI, which includes funding from a three-year grant from the Hasbro Children's Fund.
Making 2-1-1 part of our community's conversation will help ensure its use and long term success.

| 2-1-1 and the United Way Fund to Prevent Homelessness in Rhode Island
UWRI launched the United Way Fund to Prevent Homelessness in Rhode Island on Jan.12 with the goal of keeping Rhode Islanders who have been hard hit by the economic downturn from losing their homes this winter. The Fund provides direct financial assistance to pay rent, mortgage payments and utility bills. One hundred percent of every donation goes to help someone in need. That's right, no adminstrative or processing fees will be deducted from donations!
Since the announcement of the Fund, 2-1-1 has seen a 50% increase in call volume and is taking between 60 and 160 calls a day from people who are inquiring about how to receive assistance from the Fund.
So far, the Fund has received $100,000 in donations. As UWRI promised to match contributions dollar for dollar up to $100,000, more than $200,000 has been made available to help Rhode Islanders remain in their homes! In view of this, UWRI has provided another $100,000 match! United Way will double contributions to the Fund until March 31st.
