| National 2-1-1 Day -
Volunteer Opportunity
In a state that is notorious for being small, we are truly facing some immense challenges. RI has the sixth highest foreclosure rate in the country and one of the highest unemployment rates, and nearly 11 percent of households in RI struggle to put food on their tables- that's 47,000 households! But help is available: Rhode Islanders needing assistance can now access help 24 hours a day seven days a week for free thanks to United Way 2-1-1 in Rhode Island. Rhode Islanders can speak confidentially with an Information and Referral specialist who will assess their needs and determine the service provider best equipped to handle their concerns. In it's first year, 2-1-1 received more than 106,000 calls from Rhode Islanders seeking information about food, shelter, housing and other human service issues. For more infomation on 2-1-1 please visit www.211ri.org.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
February 11 (2-11) is National 2-1-1 Day! Email ashley.desimone@uwri.org if you're interested in LIVING UNITED by volunteering to distribute 2-1-1 information to your coworkers and others! | |

UWRI's 2008-2009 Annual Campaign: LIVE UNITED...GIVE. ADVOCATE. VOLUNTEER.
The LIVE UNITED campaign challenges people to get involved by giving their financial resources, advocating through United Way for the causes in which they believe, and volunteering their time, talents and energy to advance the common good United Way of Rhode Island's (UWRI) 2008 LIVE UNITED Campaign goal is to raise $16.1 million with $7.6 million going to support UWRI's Community Impact Fund (CIF).
Contributions to the CIF are invested to attack key issues Rhode Islanders care about - the production of affordable housing and reducing homelessness, creating job training and employment opportunities for low skilled workers and providing opportunities for parents to participate in their kid's success in school and life. It's not only about helping people with immediate needs, but also about facilitating longer term solutions to stop problems before they occur.
We anticipate that the fundraising environment will be very challenging this year. It's in times like these when demand for social services increases and more people rely on the help of United Way. That's why we are encouraging all of you to LIVE UNITED. |
