APHA: Policy Innovation Contest

Win up to $40,000 from American Public Health Association (APHA) to develop, implement, and/or evaluate an innovative policy approach to a critical public health problem, with a focus on reducing health inequities and building policy capacity. Health departments may apply independently, or in partnership with non-profits. A letter of intent is due January 18, and applications are due January 31, 2012. Learn more.

Livability and Smart Growth Assessment Tools Database

The Livability and Smart Growth Assessment Tools Database, from the Safe States Alliance, connects local health departments with basic assessment tools and checklists to evaluate their communities' degree of livability and create safer, healthier neighborhoods. This database allows users to search by community size, assessment type, user role, and six topic areas.

National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey

Over 12 million men and women are victims of rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner each year, which poses a huge public health problem. The CDC recently released The National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey (NISVS) 2010 Summary Report, which provides data on this issue. This report is a valuable resource for public health professionals and advocates in the fields of violence prevention.
