A new DVD from Screening for Mental Health, SOS Friends for Life, features the true stories of three teenagers who have struggled with mental health issues. The video also provides students with instructions for identifying signs of distress in themselves and in friends, to promote effective response and reduce teen suicide. CDC Report on Sports and Recreation Heat Illness

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Morbidity and Mortality Report (MMWR), released on July 29, 2011, investigates sports and recreation heat illness from 2001-2009. The report found those most at risk for heat illness from outdoor sport or recreation to be males and those ages 15-19 years. Recommendations include the development of effective heat illness prevention messages, targeted toward physically active individuals, particularly those in the riskiest groups. RFA: Health Impact Assessment Mentorship Project

The Health Impact Project and the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) have announced a request for applications for local health departments to participate in a Health Impact Assessment (HIA) Mentorship Project. Designed to support local health departments wishing to implement this important approach to building healthy communities, this program will match four agencies that are new to HIA with those that have experience in the field, giving them peer-to-peer assistance and technical support.
