According to the CDC, more than 41,000 people in the United States die in motor vehicle crashes each year, and crash injuries result in about 500,000 hospitalizations and four million emergency department visits annually. The economic burden of motor vehicle-related deaths and injuries is also enormous, costing the United States more than $150 billion each year.
CDC's Injury Center has several resources for motor vehicle safety, including fact sheets, activities, and research priorities. To access these resources, visit http://www.cdc.gov/health/motor.htm.

| Researchers Have Mapped the Deadliest Roads in the United States
Researchers at the University of Minnesota's Center for Excellence in Rural
Safety (CERS) developed www.saferoadmaps.org, so you can simply enter your
address to see a map or satellite image of all of the road fatalities that have
occurred in the area. Users can narrow their search to see the age of the
driver, whether speeding or drinking was a factor, and if the driver was wearing
a seat belt. For more information, visit www.saferoadmaps.org.
