sc     SHALOM FROM
               TEL AVIV...

WE HAVE STARTED OUR HISTORIC FIRST LCMS DIRECT EVANGELISM EFFORT IN ISRAEL.
January is supposed to be the rainy season, and water is very dear in the Middle East. There has been little rain in the past two years, making it hard, here. But we have come with the Good News of the One who gives living water and YOUR prayers and support are making this possible! Thank YOU!
We arrived Sunday afternoon, the 25th at 3:45 PM. While there were a few glitches in the trip, we chose to begin on time - We have prayer and orientation on Sunday evening with Ephriam Goldstein, a long time personal friend who has been living in the land for 15 years.

On Monday we went on our first sortie (going out and distributing our Gospel tracts). Unlike North America where maybe one in 60 people we encounter is Jewish, here the odds are reversed in the one in sixty are gentile.

In a two hour sortie in the US we might distribute 300-500 Gospel tracts, here we distribute an average of 75. BUT the number of conversations we have had with Jewish people is much higher! Already we have received the names of over 20 Jewish contacts who have been willing to receive more information, and had conversations with dozens of people expressing their views from disgust and hostility to genuine interest.

This is an amazing experience and a highlight of my 33 years as a missionary.

We will bring you some stories as they are written down from Shelley, Kevin, Alexey, Nancy., Alan & me - but for now we wanted you to know that we arrived safely, are up and running and we ask your prayers for:

1. Stamina for the rigorous schedule

2. Encouragement in the face of indifference and opposition

3. Openness to the Gospel

4. The joy of the Lord to be our strength
