| Message from the Executive Director | |

I am certain that many have the impression that the NHA is a halcyon place in the winter months - a time when the staff sits back, relaxes, and buffs their shoes in preparation for the upcoming summer. Not!
During the last week of February, we were in the midst of a remarkably well-attended school vacation program, hosted for those legions of students who remained on island. We called the program Nantucket: A Treasure Island, and it was thrilling to watch parents and children exploring the various activity stations, often leaving with an authentic-looking carte-de-visite for their fridge or bedroom wall. The program was generously supported by a grant from the Nantucket Golf Club Foundation. Visit our new NHA EVENTS PHOTO GALLERY to see what happened!
Meanwhile, we are in the midst of our twenty-two-week Food for Thought brown bag lecture series, while also preparing for our 2nd annual Nantucket History Quiz Bowl.
Regarding the latter, if you happen to be within a day's drive of the island, you may want to point your car toward the Whaling Museum. There is usually plenty of parking at this time of the year, but on March 5 you must get here early, as all of Gosnell Hall will be filled with eager islanders ready to have their knowledge of Nantucket history tested.
Nat Philbrick will again be our "Quizmaster" and moderator, and yours truly will join two other "judges" as we progress through an action-packed evening of eliminations. In the end, the winning team will be awarded the coveted Clara, a stuffed plush whale valued at a stunning $3.78. It's the recognition that counts, coupled with the knowledge that as far as Nantucket trivia goes, "you rule!"
Here's to spring!

Executive Director
