Storybooks for the young set

a storybook about  the popular aardvark who just HAS to have a gizmo for his dog that he sees in a TV commercial.  But why wait till the holidays, use this book NOW to help kids get through that holiday madness called "the gimmes".

Teddy is a bear whose story reassures young children who may become disturbed by violence they encounter on TV, in movies  or other media.  Written by children's media expert Dr. Joanne Cantor, it's a storybook, an activity book and a going-to-bed book rolled into one!  Highly recommended for age 3-6.

Eye Spy:  An Interactive Coloring Book is a terrific gift for pre-schoolers up to grade 2.  (or for early childhood teachers.) The coloring/drawing activities help children express  their feelings about what makes them scared, what superheroes are made of, how commercials work - and more!.  Great gift for media savvy grandparents who like to  spend time with little ones.  Also available in Spanish!

For Hard to Gift Teens & Tweens

by Scott McCloud  and Reading Comics: How Graphic Novels Work and What They Mean by Douglas Wolk are a terrific two-part introduction to "sequential" art and provide a goldmine of stories, tips, models and history of the comic form in the US.  Fascinating for art teachers, too.

Yo-TV Production Handbook is a low-cost,  high quality paperback to help young filmmakers keep professional track of their productions.  Written by teens at Educational Video Center in New York City, it's filled with practical worksheets and checklists including permission slips for minors.
