NMEC 2007 & Research Summit Highlights
|
It was four days of non-stop media literacy when over 300 media literacy practitioners and researchers from throughout the world gathered in St. Louis for AMLA's 2007 National Media Education Conference and Research Summit.
Over lunch and in the Media Hub, in hands-on workshops and networking breakfasts, through informative panels and break-out sessions, the conference theme created multiple opportunities to explore how innovations in media technology are not only changing our 21st century global culture but also challenging educators at all levels and across the curriculum.
Visit the AMLA website to view NMEC highlights, which include podcasts of keynote speakers, blogs and a photo gallery. But please bear with us as our website is in transition (see below).

| AMLA Offers Support for Local Efforts
|
Now that the 2007 NMEC has fired us up, let's keep the media literacy education momentum going!
Will you be conducting a local Media Literacy event? If so, the AMLA wants to help. We are available to partner with members and local groups to plan off-conference-year media literacy events.
If you anticipate holding a media literacy event in the coming year and would like to link up with AMLA simply contact AMLA 1st VP Joe Behson. Joe will be glad to work with you to ensure the success of your event and to discuss ways in which the AMLA can support or even co-sponsor the event.

Copyright Study Group Needs Your Input
|
The Glushko-Samuelson Intellectual Property Law Clinic at American University is working with the Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA) on a FTC complaint against major content providers including the NFL, the MLB, Universal, DreamWorks, Harcourt Inc., and Penguin Group. The CCIA alleges that these corporations have engaged in a nationwide pattern of unfair and deceptive trade practices by misrepresenting consumer rights under copyright law by posting misleading and overreaching copyright warnings.
The Clinic is looking for anyone who has been injured or affected by these overreaching copyright warnings. That is people who chose not to use a particular work or modified their use of that work after reading the attached overreaching copyright warning. For example, a teacher who chose not to use a television program, movie, or music clip in the classroom out of fear that his or her actions violated copyright law. We are also interested in school's administrative policies on copyright in the classroom. If you have a story or any helpful information regarding this issue, please email Marlee Miller or Khalil Malouf at copyrightmisuse@gmail.com.
