From Modini Ranch Biologist Sherry Adams:
This Calochortus vestae or Vesta's mariposa lily is a close relative (same genus) of Diogene's lanterns, another eye-catching flower that tends to bloom a little earlier in the year. Both have limited ranges, found primarily in the north coast ranges of Northern California.

| With gratitude.....
The 2nd annual Art of Eating was a huge success, exceeding our fundraising goals for Audubon Canyon Ranch's Education Programs.
The ACR community would like to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who gave generously to produce a successful event.
We are grateful to our amazing volunteers and committee members for their commitment and hard work. We deeply appreciate the participating restaurants, purveyors, chefs, wineries, brewers, auction donors and artists for the event's cornucopia of food and wine tastings, as well as auction items. We are thankful to the event's attendees, who gave generously and celebrated ACR with us. You are all providing invaluable resources to support the mission of Audubon Canyon Ranch.
The event's success would not have been possible without the generosity of our Sponsors: Spirits of the Valley Sponsors Bingham, Osborne & Scarborough, LLC Julie Allecta, April Starke Slakey & the SF Bad Girls Book Club Helen McKenna Ridley & Allan Ridley Susan & Kevin Consey Sponsors Merrill Lynch and Steve & Denise Smith Anna-Marie Bratton Zero Waste Sponsors Barbara & Marty Winter Décor Sponsors Oak Hill Farms Bank of Marin Honorary Committee Les Dames d'Escoffier

Hikers attending a recent Guided Nature Walk were treated to the incredibly rare sight at the Bouverie Preserve: a spotted owl. Folks watched as it quietly sat watching the humans, while a family of vireos frantically swarmed around the owl, protecting their nearby nest.
It's been over 5 years since a spotted owl was last seen at the preserve. It doesn't get much better than this! |
Support the preservation of native habitats and inspire the next generation of nature enthusiasts
We can't do it without you!
Your support of this locally based Bay Area non-profit organization has wide-reaching impact...in fact, global. Although the ACR mission--to protect nature through land preservation, nature education and conservation science--is nested in Marin and Sonoma counties, it has fledglings that fly far and wide...beyond county, state and national borders. Please support ACR with a financial gift this summer...thank you! |
