Fearless Faith
Faith on the High Wire of Life
On Sunday, June 7, UUMC will enjoy a service lead by a very special guest!
"In the rarified world of aerialists, Tino Wallenda is royalty," stated a documentary on the Discovery Channel. A seventh generation Flying Wallenda, Tino has "walked over dens of lions and tigers, between buildings, across rivers, and over a pool that contained more than 50 sharks." With all the fame and acclaim, however, those who know him best know that it is God who is at the center of his life. In morning worship on Sunday, June 7 Mr. Wallenda will share with us a simple, yet powerful message of Fearless Faith delivered from the high wire.

All-Church Potluck

Volunteers Needed for UUMC's Gay Pride Festival Booth
For the third-consecutive year, UUMC will have a booth at the Saint Louis Gay Pride Festival on June 27-28 in Tower Grove Park. We need 17 more volunteers to staff the booth for two-hour shifts between 3-7pm on Saturday and 11am-7pm on Sunday.
It's a fun time of meeting people (and pets), handing out invitations to upcoming UUMC events, and talking a little about who we are and what we do. If you can help, please call or e-mail Dan Barrett (314-726-2509 or danwbarrett@yahoo.com).

All proceeds from this event will go to support clean water through the World Service Fund of The United Methodist Church.

|
Needed: Cake Bakers, Grills and Grillers!!
On June 14 UUMC will have its first ever Holy Smoke and Cake-Off. To make this barbeque and cake baking competition most excellent we will need to have a few grills with people willing to grill hotdogs, burgers and some veggie burgers.
Do you have a grill you can get to church? Would you be willing to barbeque on the 14th?
We REALLY need some folks to grill and we are absolutely willing to use bribery to get them!! Those who are willing to grill - will be the JUDGES of the Cake-Off! Woo-Hoo! You'll be "required" to taste every entry and select the award winners. Sign up right away!
How about baking a cake? You may enter cakes in the following categories:
Best Decorated Cake Best Tasting Cake (chocolate - if any part is chocolate) Best Tasting Cake (everything except chocolate) Best Cupcake Best Cake age 11-17 Best Cake age under 11
If you can help, e-mail Rev. Brenda at brendastobbe@hotmail.com or give her a call at church, 314.863.8055. Or, you can sign up in the bulletin!

Under the Green Gourd Tree
When
Jonah didn't understand God's plan or God's grace, God made a green
gourd tree grow, under which Jonah sat and learned. Join adults at
UUMC for a year of learning, under the green gourd tree.
Simplicity Circles: Beginning this Sunday, June 7, UUMC will begin a group named "Simplicity". The group will use Simple Living Network resources to create simplicity circles. These groups or circles will consider the wisdom, need and ability to simplify many areas of our lives. Lynnea Brumbaugh will lead the first group. Join Lynnea on June 7 in room 27 to help craft our first-ever Simplicity Circle. This curriculum is provided by the same organization that produces "Whose Birthday Is It Anyway?"
Crosstalk: Crosstalk meets at 9:15 in Room 19a. Feel free to drop in when you can.
Sunday June 7, How is religion relevant to us right now? (NOOMA video) led by Cindy Mitchell
Crosstalk's blog has now been moved to the University UMC web site. The former blog will still contain information past programs.
"The Desert Mothers": Beginning June 14, Rob Rexroat will lead this fascinating class. Visit with Rob or Rev. Stobbe for additional information. Contact the church office to sign up.

Are You Going to the Circus?
If you are one of the approximately 33 people from UUMC going to the Circus on Sunday, June 7 there are a few things you need to know:
- Tickets will be at the Will-Call window.
- Everyone will absolutely need to leave the church by 12:30, at the latest, in order to park and get seated. If you leave any later, you will probably be late.
- Best way to get to Circus Flora is probably to just head east on Delmar 'til you get there.

Music Announcements
The Chancel Choir will end this season with a rousing anthem using the old gospel hymn Blessed Be the Name. Tom Fettke, a fine arranger from California, has written this music taking the choir through many keys. The postlude, in keeping with the theme of the day, will be the immortal Entrance of the Gladiators, by Julius Fucik. The congregation will note the connection immediately!

Would you like UUMC to have a Blessing of the Animals service this year? If so, please call or e-mail Dan Barrett (314-726-2509 or danwbarrett@yahoo.com). Last August, we had our first service and hope to have the next service on September 12 in Heman Park preceding the University City Puppy Pool Party (1:00-4:00 pm).

Fellowship Time
On the bulletin board in Fellowship Hall, there is a sign-up sheet for bringing snacks for Fellowship Time after worship. Because of the potluck and cookout, the next two times to bring snacks are June 21st and 28th. Fellowship Time is a great welcoming opportunity with visitors. We want to always have snacks and often a beverage as simple as ice-water. Please sign-up for a time in June-August. Into autumn when it's not too hot and not raining, we will continue to have Fellowship Time outside. The Inviting Ministries Team will coordinate the set-up of the table, chairs, and trash container. Those of you signing-up to bring snacks do not have to worry about any of that.

Please wear your UUMC name-tag every Sunday and at other service and out-reach opportunities away from church. If you do not have a name-tag, please e-mail Becky (officeadmin@university-umc.com) and she'll be gald to make a new one for you.
