Players and Fans
It's hard to believe we are almost half-way
through the 2009 National Tour. As expected,
there are some big rivalries heating up in
the Men's and Women's Pro divisions. Brett
Johnson and Mike Edison (Team Rhino) and
Donny Young and Marty Salokas have been
slugging it out on the tour and are virtually
tied in the point series standings. Nadia
Johnston, and her new partner, Nicole Melch,
have been mostly unchallenged thus far.
However, as the tour moves to the West Coast
next month, we'll get a chance to see what
the 2008 champs, the Maloney Sisters--Lisa
and Laura, are up to.
Last month, we announced some big news in the
world of pro beach tennis--our 2010 combined
tour with EVP Volleyball. This move merges
the two hottest sports on the sand, and
packages them in one nationally televised
tour. We'd like to thank Ross Balling of EVP
Tour for his tireless work in helping to make
this happen. You can learn more about EVP
tour HERE.
Probably the most satisfying thing I've seen
on this year's tour is the huge increase in
Amateur and Juniors division players that
have turned
out at our events. Remember, anyone can play.
Just grab your racquet and get down to the
beach. This year, we've even started to
integrate some "paddle" beach tennis into our
events. Try both styles and let us know what
you think. Racquets...Paddles...it's all
beach tennis! And now you can get deep
discounts on
all our event registration fees by becoming a
BTUSA member. CLICK

We continue to use social media to help
spread the word about beach tennis. You can
now follow live updates from all of our events
on Twitter,
and keep up to speed with everything that's
happening in the movement on Facebook.
And don't forget to upload your favorite
beach tennis photos to our Flickr
Photostream.
Please share this newsletter with all of your
beach tennis friends by scrolling to the
bottom and using the "Forward" link. Here's to
an amazing 2009 season! Come join

Rhino Gets Revenge in Ft. Lauderdale!
Johnston and Melch Continue to Dominate Women's Pro Division
Over thirty Pro and Amateur division teams
turned out to compete at Beach Tennis USA's
Ft. Lauderdale Open this weekend. Local
players Kevin Marshburn and Greg McPhillips,
(Ft. Lauderdale), won the Amateur division
and Laura Cundy And Marissa Rock (Ft.
Lauderdale) advanced to the finals of the
Women's Pro division, only to be taken down
quickly by three-time national champ Nadia
Johnston and her partner Nicole Melch (both
from Long Beach, NY), 8-2.
The fierce battle for supremacy in the Men's
Pro division continued as Mike Edison and
Brett Johnson of Team Rhino (Clearwater, FL)
defeated Marty Salokas and Donny Young
(Hermosa Beach, CA), 8-3. The same teams
faced each other in March at the BTUSA Tampa
Bay Open, where Salokas and Young triumphed.
