At a summer fundraiser for the Cool Kids Campaign, I was asked to "model" a piece of bling-bling ... a John Hardy silver diamond bracelet. It never left my wrist, actually, because my sweet husband purchased it during the event's live auction (and I remained guilt-free because the $$ went to our favorite charity. :-)

The bracelet came with a soft drawstring pouch inside of a nice brown wooden box. When we returned home, I placed it inside its soft little nest and stored it in the closet for a "special" time to wear it.
The next day I thought about that bracelet (okay, it called my name :-) ... I wanted to wear it. Yet I wasn't going anywhere "special" ... just running work-related errands downtown.
So what? I thought. A girl is allowed to wear diamonds only on special occasions? (Some of us wear our diamond wedding rings every day.) So I lifted the bracelet from its soft little nest and I snapped it around my wrist. And I admired its beauty all over again.
You know why? For one, yes, because beautiful jewelry is a simple pleasure. But also because the bracelet is pretty TODAY. And today is as special as any other day. We are here and now. Present day. This moment. Now. Today is really all that matters.
Go retrieve something out of your closet or drawer - you know - that thing you are "saving" for a "special day." Wear it, use it, or present it to the person you said you would give it to "one day."
Today is one day. Make today special. |
A single guy lived at home with his father and worked in the family business. When he learned he was going to inherit a fortune when his ill father died, he decided he needed a wife with which to enjoy the money.
One evening at an investment meeting he was introduced to the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.
Smitten with her, he handed the woman his business card and said, "I may look like an ordinary man, but in a few months, I will inherit 20 million dollars."
The gorgeous woman was impressed, smiled, and accepted his business card.
Three weeks later, she became his stepmother.
