SCHOOL NEWS and POINTS OF INTEREST |
Attention all students! Having trouble with your homework? Can't solve that one pesky problem? Is there a question you can't find an answer to? Then you can get some assistance at the Homework Help Table. Students from the National Junior Honor Society will be available in the Library every Tuesday through Friday morning to help you. Stop by any morning, Tuesday through Friday, and get some Homework Help!
****** Baines Middle School Parents and Students,
We wanted to send out a reminder to all students and parents concerning outside weather. Some days it can be windy and cold outside. Students will still be outside doing fitness and participating in their units. Students are recommended to bring school colored sweat shirts and/or sweat pants to PE everyday, blue, grey, black, white. Students are still required to wear their Baines PE uniform under their sweats.
Thank You, Your Baines PE Department
Join us at the kickoff planning meeting for the 2010 BMS International Festival: Tuesday, Jan. 19th from 4:00-4:45 in Rm 1130. This school wide event celebrates our diversity and is being held on Friday, April 16th.
SUPPORT YOUR PE/HEALTH & ATHLETICS DEPARTMENTS!
The BMS PE/Health and Athletics Departments are hosting a fundraiser this month. Baines Students are selling Merchant discount cards for $15.00 each. By purchasing this card you receive discounts at local eateries like Hot Dog Station, Cream Worx, Smoothie King, Sonic and more! Plus discounts for services at SportClips and Image Nails. Every student was given an order form on Tuesday, Jan. 12th, in PE or Health. The cards are on sale through January 27th, 2010 and the proceeds will be used to paint the gyms, buy championship banners, and buy athletic/PE/Health equipment and supplies.
NJHS Valentine carnation sales will start on Jan.27th and go until Feb. 11th. Carnations can be purchased at all lunches for $1 each. They will be delivered to the recipient's classroom on Friday, February 12th.
The BMS GT Mentorship Program, now in its second year, has students in need of adult mentors to work with them. These students have specific areas of interest (listed below), as they will develop a research plan, carry out research, hopefully have some field experiences with their mentors, and produce a final product for presentation at our Mentorship Showcase on May 24th. Mentors who are in the fields listed below and who would be willing to spend some time once every week or two with a student who also has an interest in the field should contact Tammy Zwahr at (281) 634-6886 or email her at tammy.zwahr@fortbend.k12.tx.us.
Our kickoff meeting between mentors and mentees is February 11th, at 4:15 pm in the BMS Library. People interested in being a mentor would also need to submit a background check form by Friday, January 22nd. The website for submitting background check information is http://www.fortbend.k12.tx.us/comrel/pie/chc.cfm. To learn more about the BMS GT Mentorship program, please visit http://www.fortbend.k12.tx.us/campuses/bms/ActivityDetail.cfm?activityIndex=13173. Read more here.....

To all 6th grade parents, this is to inform you of the new guidelines that the state of Texas passed last year regarding new immunization requirements. Beginning this year incoming 7th graders were required to get Tdap, meningitis, and varicella (or proof of chickenpox disease). So make sure if you are going to the doctor over the holiday or between now and the start of the next school year (2010-2011) you get these for your 6th grader. If your child has already had these immunizations please furnish the school with a copy so I can update their records. 7th graders will not be allowed to start next school year if they are not up to date on their immunizations. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me @281-634-6884.
Sincerely,
Peg Adamczak, RN BSN Baines MS Nurse
