FIRST DAY QUESTIONS & ANSWERS:
Dear  ,
It's that time again.  We are starting the 2008-2009 School Year on Monday, August 25th. Here are a few questions you might have about the first day of school:
 
What happens on the first day of school?  Full day of non-instructional activities including a schedule walk-through.
 
Where do students report on the first day? 
6th grade - report to The Commons
7th grade - report to GYM 1 (smaller gym)
8th grade - report to GYM 2 (larger gym)
School Hours 8:50 am (tardy bell) to 3:50 (dismissal)
Building Hours 8:00 am to 4:10 pm
 
How do students know which Advisory class to go to?
  Signs/lists will be posted in the Commons & Gym.  Staff will be on hand to assist the students.
 
What school supplies should they bring on the First Day?
Students only need a binder with paper and pen for the first day.
 
Where/when will school supply lists be given to students? Teachers will let students know what supplies they will need for each class.
 
How do we get BUS ROUTE information?  Postcards were mailed to each student  with the bus route number, pick up location, and pick-up time.  FBISD also has a "query" program where you can look up your bus information by your address, visit

What are the rules about backpacks during the day at school?
Backpacks are to be kept in lockers.  "BAINES" string bags will be allowed to be taken to class - must be "BAINES" bag.
 
Is there a second pick-up location for car riders at the back of the academic wing?
  NO!  The FRONT of the school is the ONLY location to pick up car riders.
 
When can deposits be made to cafeteria/lunch accounts once school starts? Students may bring checks to the cafeteria during breakfast time to fill their account.  If students do not have money in their account, only cash may be used at lunch time.

When can we buy PE uniforms? PE Uniforms will be on sale during gym class the first week of school.   Price is $20 for both t-shirt and shorts, cash or check.

When will the School Store be open and Spirit Wear be available for sale again?   School store opens Tuesday, Sept. 9th. (before school). View complete price list.
 
IMPORTANT! 
Students come home from school on the first day with a PACKET full of great information and, of course, forms to be filled out.  Some of these forms require immediate attention!  Be sure to review the packet! Forms are due back to school by Wednesday, August 27th.

FALL VIPS COFFEE
The Fall VIPS Coffee will be on Wednesday, September 10th at 9:00am in the Baines Middle School Library.  Come and enjoy seeing old friends, making new friends and learning about the exciting ways you can be involved in Baines Middle School. We will serve breakfast, have entertainment by Baines students and have door prize raffles.
 
 And...we are looking for Volunteers in all areas as well as Committee Chair Positions and volunteers for the Socials/Dances, Teacher Appreciation Week, Holiday Luncheons for Teachers, Field Trips. Longhorn Store, Sponsorship, School Directory, Book Fair, School Play-Annie and many other things.

PTO BOARD MEETINGS
Monthly meetings are typically held on the second Thursday of each month at 5:30, in the Baines Library.  All meetings are open to the PTO Membership.  The next board meeting is Sept. 11th.
