Natural Allergy Remedies that Work

If you have been suffering from terrible allergies like me, it is no surprise: this year has had record high pollen counts. If you have tried everything: Claritin, Zyrtec, Alcon Allergy eye drops, etc., with no relief, it might be time to try some more natural remedies for allergies and sinusitis. Here are three remedies that seem to do the trick for most:

  1. Neti Pot: If you haven't heard about the neti pot yet, you really need to. Originally an Ayurvedic therapy, the neti pot is used to irrigate your nasal passages using saline solution. This helps to flush out pollen and other allergens from your nasal passages. The neti pot is a small plastic, metal or ceramic device that has a spout and should be used in your bathroom over your sink. As you bend over the sink, you place the spout up one nostril so that you can pour the solution into your nose so that it streams out the other nostril, while keeping your mouth open so that you can breathe. I'm not going to lie, this technique is not the most elegant or attractive, but it does help relieve congestion and allergy symptoms. If your allergies are bad, I recommend you do this at least three times a day.
  2. Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV): Although you may use apple cider vinegar in your food, it can also be helpful in warding off and relieving symptoms of allergies. Personally, I found some major relief instantly, even after a few days of harsh symptoms. Take Apple Cider Vinegar as a daily tonic or when you start feeling symptoms of allergies, such as sinus headache, a stuffy nose or watery eyes. Since Apple Cider Vinegar has a strong taste and smell, you can mix a couple of tablespoons of ACV with a glass of water and sip it over a half hour. Or, you can drink the two tablespoons all at once. If you try to drink it straight, hold your nose while you drink it so that it doesn't have as strong as a taste or smell. If your symptoms don't disappear immediately, you can take this mixture up to three times a day. If you've been experiencing allergies for a few days or so, your symptoms should disappear within about 24 hours. Keep taking the mixture, however for several days to be sure you rid your body of the histamine response.
  3. Cold Water: As simple as it may sound, frequently flushing your eyes out with cool water can relieve the itchiness and pain in your eyes. Do this almost every hour for a day or two, and it definitely provides relief.
  4. Steam Baths: One way to relieve congestion is with inhalation in a steam room or steam shower. Steam inhalation supports mucosal secretions in the respiratory system and helps to open up the airways therefore reducing respiration resistance. This helps to relieve the discomfort of asthma and allergies.

Obviously, preventing pollen, ragweed and dust from entering our homes is important as well. Keep the air in your home clean by using air purifiers with HEPA filters. Also, remember that every time we enter our home, we drag in a whole host of unhealthy things from the outside on our shoes, our clothes, and our belongings. To prevent this, remove your shoes before entering your home to keep the worst allergens out!

5 Steps to Achieve Your Dreams

The more passionate you are about what you do, the more energy you are dedicating to the manifestation of your dreams. In fact, without passion, you will never manifest anything. That is because all works of creation are generated by love-your love for yourself and for what you are creating. The love with which you imbue your work and your life in general will touch the hearts of people who come in contact with you.

The following suggestions will help you get in touch with your dreams:

1.    Start to dream again. If I were your fairy godmother and I could sprinkle fairy dust on you and grant you one wish, what would it be? It's time to stop talking about not having a dream and start figuring out what it is and how to achieve it. Be your own fairy godmother.

2.    Be specific. If you want a new home, what does it look like in detail? How many rooms are there? What color is it and what is the style of furniture? Who will live there with you? Will you be there all the time or only in the winter? How many decks does the house have and how big a garden? Is there a fountain at the front entrance? Does it have a swimming pool?

Or maybe you want to go on a great vacation or join a spa membership, or get a new wardrobe...  These choices are all yours, so be specific. Focus on visualizing this dream, make it a reality in your mind, and give it everything you've got.

3.    Make a timeline. When can you make your dream happen? In two years? In five years? Are you saying something like "I'd really like to go back to school but I have three young children"? Change the "but" to an "and": "I'd really like to go back to school and I have three young children." Doesn't that make it feel more like a possibility? Just put a timeline on achieving your dream, because without one, it probably won't happen.

4.    Make a plan of action. Excuses will do nothing to move you forward. Only taking action will work. If you need to go back to school, sign up for one course to start. If the university is forty miles away, get in your car and start driving. The sooner you take positive steps in the right direction, the more real it becomes. If you want that home on a beach somewhere, go to a real estate agent and discuss it. The strength of your commitment and your belief in yourself will create the end result. If you need financing, start looking now. Go to your local bank and discuss the possibilities. Or talk to people who have already done it. If they did it, so can you!

5.    Take action. Do it now. Take the first step, and remember to surround yourself with people who lift you up, help you fly, and then stand back and watch you soar.
