Keep your skin hydrated
Skin is less likely to burn if it is properly moisturized. Badger sunscreens already have a base of wonderfully hydrating ingredients to help keep your skin nourished while in the sun!
Reapply sunscreen often
Forgetting to reapply sunscreen is one of the main causes of sunburns. Here's what we recommend:
- In ideal conditions: Reapply at least every 2 hours.
- If swimming, sweating, or towel drying: Reapply every 40 minutes, or sooner if solar conditions are extreme.
Adjust protection to meet your conditions
Solar intensity is not the same from day to day. You might be fine reapplying sunscreen every two hours one day, and find you need to apply every hour on another day.
Your location also plays a large role: If you are close to the equator (say, vacationing in the tropics) or at a high elevation (enjoying a mountain hike), you are going to burn more quickly than if you were in less intense solar conditions.
Enjoy the shade, too!
Taking breaks in the shade for as little as 15 minutes can help cool down your skin and reduce the chance of burning or overheating.
Relaxing in the shade is a good place to be during high solar intensity times like 10am-2pm.
Never expose burned skin to more sun
If your skin has burned, you have already maxed out your time in the sun. Even if you apply more sunscreen, you will continue to burn. Stay in the shade or wear sun protective clothing to protect burned skin. |
