Last month I asked you to send me your "Green Your Scene" suggestions for this upcoming Earth Day, April 22nd. We received some wonderful ideas, but unfortunately I could only choose a few to showcase. Thank you to all of you eco-savvy Badgers who participated!
Always be ready!
"My toddler boys, my husband, and I LOVE walking nature realms, bike & hike paths, random hiking trails, and parks. So, we have started keeping a set of gardening gloves for all four of us (even my almost-three-year-old has a pair!) and a handful of bags from the grocery store in the car along with our other reusable grocery bags and assorted kid stuff. Whenever we stop off randomly at a park, we have them available, so as we hike, run, or play, we have the gloves to pick up random trash we see around the parks. At the end of the trail there is always a place to deposit it. Not only are we out enjoying the nature and fresh air, but we leave it a little cleaner when we leave!"

Awaken Your Creativity!
"To promote our yearly project of "Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle" to pre-school students, I asked a local grocery store that houses a well-known coffee company to save their gallon plastic containers. We did a parent-child activity making birdhouses using the saved containers, re-used chop sticks for the perches, bird seed donated by a local store, and yarn for the hangers. It was a wonderful project and it helped the children to come up with many other ideas of what they can do at their homes to recycle."

Get Organized and Be Proud!
"Set up a recycling area in your house or apartment and be proud of it. I recently got better organized by lining up large, colorful containers and labeling them: Metal, Plastic or Glass, Paper, and 5-Cents-Back. However your town's landfill separates items, that is how you should separate items also. When it comes time to make a trip to the landfill, I am organized!"
