Tribute for a Trachoma Champion: Dr. Bernadette Yoda
The fight to eliminate blinding trachoma recently lost one of its true champions with the death of Dr. Bernadette Yoda, Coordinator of the National Program for the Prevention of Blindness in Burkina Faso. For over ten years, Dr. Yoda was at the forefront of efforts in her country to prevent and control trachoma. She approached her work with a thoughtful, calm attitude and never hesitated to share her thoughts or to seek further knowledge. She was a kind and thoughtful partner who made collaboration easy. It was her hope to take trachoma interventions to scale as quickly as possible in Burkina Faso in order to reach their goal of elimination by 2015 and to relieve those suffering from the pain of trichiasis. We hope to stay true to her dream.
