Technology Community Networks at Digital Cocktail
Ninety-five local CIOs, technology executives, and technology suppliers connected and reconnected at the NPower Digital Cocktail on Thursday, March 27. The event, a pre-party for Digital Ball 2008, brought together the Charlotte Region technology community for high-powered business networking. The Duke Mansion provided an elegant setting for the evening.
Kevin Collins welcomed guests and highlighted NPower's five-year anniversary by recognizing its founders. Rich McKnight, CIO of Novant Health and Co-Chair of Digital Ball 2008 emphasized the value NPower brings to the nonprofit community. Presenting sponsor spokesman Doug Wendler, Managing Partner of SunGard Consulting, thanked the Hosts and Sponsors for their commitment to NPower Charlotte Region.
The Digital Cocktail was also the setting for an informal five-year reunion of American Leadership Forum Class II, who wrote the original business plan to launch NPower Charlotte Region.
The Digital Cocktail was sponsored by The Duke Mansion and Eurest, a division of Compass Group.

Middle School Matters
Developing 21st Century Skills
Through the innovative program Middle School Matters, launched by Partners in Out-of-School Time, NPower is directly in touch with the future - children.
The program, a joint partnership between Partners in Out-of-School Time, Athletes United for Youth, Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club, Citizens Schools, and NPower Charlotte Region, is a network of afterschool programs which focus on helping children develop 21st century skills.
NPower is developing and delivering a technology curriculum that teaches students how to use technology to analyze and solve problems. The curriculum also introduces students to social networking and Web 2.0 technologies.
NPower is currently piloting the technology curriculum at Quail Hollow Middle School and plans to roll out the curriculum to 3 additional schools in Fall 2008. Middle School Matters targets expansion to the remaining 29 schools by 2010. |
