Greetings!
September Salutations! As we dance into another month of Movement, Music, and Magic, our theme for this month is Creative Arm and Hand Expressions! "The upper extremities are tools for healing, touching, directing energy and creating connections. They are extensions of your feelings and thoughts and allow you to express yourself in personal and purposeful ways. Use your hands and arms as tools for healing and expressing yourself." ~ The Nia Technique, by Debbie Rosas Stewart and Carlos AyaRosas
MOVE OF THE MONTH: Upward Block
BENEFITS: Practicing this block improves your ability to start and stop, creating dynamic upper body coordination. This block will build your arm strength and speed and will naturally endow you with added physical confidence!
HOW: Standing grounded in a strong A or Sumo-stance, begin this block in the ready position with your palms up, elbows in and pulled back down with the forearms hugging the sides of your body. Once you are in ready position, bring one elbow and forearm up, blocking the area around in front of your face and forehead, while the other elbow and forearm draws back to maintain vertical alignment. A powerful block comes from moving out of and returning back to the ready position. |
