Institute Sets Strategic Direction

Charting the Future for Immigrants & St. Louis

The Board of Directors of the International Institute has set our strategic direction for the next three years. Institute goals focus on offering superior services, fostering positive community relationships, promoting the value of ethnic diversity, and ensuring Agency sustainability.

In the next period, we will look to keeping our core services strong while growing supplemental services, especially those benefitting the economic well-being of refugee and immigrant clients and the community at large. Examples include our urban farm (see article below), immigrant entrepreneurism, and workforce diversity training initiatives.

Our staff will also work to expand Festival of Nations, so more St. Louisans can communicate and learn from each other. We will also provide leadership and advocate on behalf of immigrants and diversity issues, so our region and state can attract more immigrants and provide a welcoming community.

"Immigrant entrepreneurs are among our region's engines for job growth, and new immigrants offer great value as new population," said Anna Crosslin, Institute President & CEO. "Our role in helping to set strategic direction for our region is growing."

Global Farms Orchard is Planted

Refugees Farmers Grow Healthy, Natural Fruit

UPS at Garden

On Sunday, April 23, II Global Farms was gifted with a new orchard of 50 apple, cherry and peach trees! The project was facilitated by the Earth Day Network and Fruit Tree Planting Foundation.

The UPS Foundation donated the orchard as part of its Fruitful Neighborhoods Programs. UPS local office volunteers gathered with Institute staff and other volunteers to move mounds of clay and top soil to complete the planting in only a few short hours.

Mayor Francis Slay paid a visit to help launch a six-city tour for the program - especially meaningful since Sunday was Earth Day.

Through this innovative planting tour, these latter day Johnny Appleseeds are traveling to St. Louis, Atlanta, Baltimore, Cleveland, Flint (MI), and Chicago, planting hundreds of fruit trees. Thus, local community groups can make their neighborhoods greener and sweeter.
