The traditional etymology of April is from the Latin aperire, "to open," in allusion to its being the season when trees and flowers begin to open. Doing what inspires you is like planting a garden. This Spring give yourself the opportunity to began the process of introducing something new into your world by planting the seeds of inspiration now. Can you imagine what Summer could be like if you really got to work?
1. What do you want to plant? Find what inspires YOU.
- What do you get excited about?
- What have you always wanted to do?
For some it may be getting serious about their health and wellness. For others it may be working outside their comfort zone and finally hit the next level of fitness. Perhaps you've always wanted to try a challenging hike, 5k, paddle boarding, inline skating, a marathon, a cleanse... whatever it is choose something that inspires you to want to show up and do the work.
2. Do you have the proper tools?
- What do you need to do to start planting?
- Are the people in your life supporting you or just another weed getting in your way?
Without the right tools we are in big trouble. It is important to have what we need before we begin. However do not let your lack of gear get in the way of starting! What do you need to get (or get rid of) to begin. If you are trying to lose weight get rid of the crap in your kitchen. In you don't drink enough water get a cute new water bottle and keep it in your car. If you feel gross in your old workout clothes hit Target, Lucy, Lululemon, or your sister's closet for some new threads. If your lame friends seduce you into burgers and fries and away from your favorite yoga class, get new friends. If you are having a hard time showing up to workout sign up for a class and force yourself to go!
- Where/when - you need to find the time - Make a plan!
You don't have all the time in the world! The idea is to do it now so you benefit later. Which means... get on it! When and where baby? Make a plan, and make it clear. Create a road map for yourself to get from where you are now to your vision. If you KEEP saying you're going to drop those last 5 pounds how is it possible when you never make it to the grocery store and always eat out? For those of you that say "Oh I'm going to hit the snooze bar this am and I'll hit the gym later". Really? How's that working for you? In order to achieve your goal you must find the time. Let's face it, you're never going to just "find" more time. You have to make it. Make it happen! I have clients that wake up at 5am to get in their workouts. Does it suck? Yes! But they sure as hell found the time at 5am. Yikes! 4.Water and Tending
- You need to keep up with your garden - We all know gardens need regular maintenance and your inspiration is no different.
Put yourself on a schedule. I find accountability is key! Being accountable to others forces us to keep it up. Share with your friends, join a boot camp or class, create a weekly check in with your closest friends. The more you tend to your garden the most beauty you will get out of it.
5. See it bloom.
- See yourself in bloom
This is the best part! THIS is where you actually get to SEE all your work flourish. This is also a great opportunity to love whatever you produce. No judgment, no pressure. If you truly found what inspired you, were sure you had the proper tools and support, got to work without wasting time, and keep up your work... your garden will be even lovelier than you ever imagined. Spring is amazing transition time to Summer and a unique opportunity to get into the kind of physical shape that makes us welcome Summer. Don't let another Summer be wasted on feeling unfit and unhappy. Happy Spring. Do yourself a favor and spring yourself towards the most fun, healthy, fit, and positive summer you've ever experienced.

Batya has been an athlete and fitness enthusiast since she was in grade school. As a high school athlete she was involved in swimming, volleyball and running, and this passion continued into college and law school.
While practicing as an attorney for three years she found that fitness, with the psychological, physical and emotional releases it provided, became a necessity. The more she worked out, ran and practiced yoga, the more Batya realized that she wanted to share this love with others and is now a NASM certified personal trainer and Yoga Alliance registered instructor.
"Working out, running and fitness outdoors are both my stress relief and passion and I love sharing this passion with people. Outdoor fitness is a great way to get in shape, transform your body, revel in the beautiful Los Angeles weather, relieve stress and meet other like-minded folks."
