Which of the folks featured here is a "minority?" The little White and African American girls, who are adopted sisters, below left? Or the Native Hawaiian and his little girl with the lei pictured below, next to our Native American gentleman? Perhaps it's the Asian doctor, below right, or maybe the Hispanic grandparents with their granddaughter?

The answer is, it all depends! Every person featured here is a "majority" (or nearly so) in some states and a "minority" in others. Yes, non-Hispanic Whites too!
The Hispanic grandparents with their granddaughter to the right would be part of the majority of non-Caucasians populating Hawaii, Texas, New Mexico, California, Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Northern Marianas Islands, and American Samoa.
Our cute-as-a-button Black adopted sister above would be part of the majority in Washington, DC. Yet, her equally cute White sister would be a minority inside the Beltway!
Our Hawaiian dad with his lei-bedecked little girl below, is part of the majority in Hawaii, a state which has never had a White majority. Our Asian doctor in scrubs above, would be right at home in the 50th state, since Hawaii boasts a population that is 41.5% Asian and 9% Native Hawaiian.

Our Native American gentleman, below right, would feel at ease in New Mexico where Native Americans make up a respectable 10.2% of the state's population.
