This edition looks at how "big data" is making an impact across business sectors. As an early adopter of Amazon's shopping site and a lifelong business technologist, I was amazed when early in the 2000s their site prompted me to purchase a rare book from my mother's European home town that had been printed in the 1930s. Of course, I bought the book and paid attention to their recommendations thereafter, as well as the evolving technology.

The abundance of tools from the big vendors are enormous, as are the philosophies about how to approach the implementation. Since there is a 64 to 1 return on investment for decision making, and the best technologists are typically consultants, we recommend bringing in expertise to get the return on investment you need for competitive advantage.

We all do not need big data but with the rate of technological change in the 21st century calculated to be a thousand times greater than the 20th century, please call us when you need help keeping up.
