The only way to make sense out of change is
to plunge into it, move with it, and join the
dance.

All of us, from time to time, need a plunge
into freedom and novelty, after which routine
and discipline will seem delightful by
contrast.

The vacant mind is ever on the watch for
relief, and ready to plunge into error, to
escape from the languor of idleness.

Diving into unfamiliar depths is worrisome,
if not downright alarming. But few regret
pushing themselves to do ... think ... learn
... something they haven't before. What do
you wish you knew that you don't? What do you
want to accomplish that feels just out of
reach? Who inspires you to take smart risks?

White Bear Lake Polar Plunge
What's hot this issue? Well, it's more about
what's ice-cold. From the High Point
headquarters in White Bear Lake, we enjoyed a
fine view of the annual Polar Plunge that
took place on January 30. While we couldn't
talk any of our own staff into taking the
plunge, we were pleased to support those who
did brave the icy waters to raise money for
Special
Olympics Minnesota.

But Will You Like It?
Before investing your entertainment dollars
(and time), look to Metacritic.
This easy-to-use resource summarizes online
criticism of movies, DVDs, music, games and
television. Deciding between Avatar and
Inglourious Basterds? The site gives a
metascore (a weighted average of all scores
assigned by individual critics) for each;
summarizes the plot, critic and user
comments; and provides a trailer. Quickly
skim the details and know you'll find
something you really do like.

How Do You Pronounce 2010?
You might have noticed some debate about the
new year. Is it "twenty ten" or is it "two
thousand ten"? In popular American usage, we
lean more toward the former. Here are a few
examples:
- The "twenty-ten Olympics" in Vancouver
- Pearl Jam singing about "twenty-ten" in
the song "Do the Evolution"
- Sealab 2021, Cartoon Network's
snarky sendup of Sealab 2020
If you're curious, Grammar Girl has a thoughtful
writeup with more details and some
interesting reader feedback that captures
different
global viewpoints.

HIGH POINT HIGHLIGHTS |

Perfecting the Patient Story
Whether to have a particular surgical
procedure. Where to deliver your baby. What
medical therapy is right for your particular
condition. These are big decisions, not to be
undertaken lightly. People often want to hear
from others who have been through the
experience before they take the plunge
themselves. We've helped many health care
organizations use patient stories to help
educate others and provide valuable inside
perspective. Here are just a few examples:
Deluxe: Small Business Survey White
Paper
What exactly are today's small business
leaders doing to get and keep customers?
That's the question
Deluxe put to 350 of them – and then asked
High Point Creative to turn the results of
that survey into a white
paper (PDF). The goal is
to help small business owners understand how
their organizations compare with others in
their industry, and learn about new ways of
effectively getting and keeping customers.
