It's a strange world of language in which skating on
thin ice can get you into hot water.

There must be quite a few things that a hot bath

Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with
the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are
the one who gets burned.

When it gets really hot, most people think of going
north. Maiya Willits, High Point’s creative director,
has gone south. Way south. She left on July 1 for a
trip of a lifetime – driving alone from St. Paul to the
Gulf Coast (and back) along the Great River Road.
Maiya shares her journey with us in a blog where she writes about
one golden moment from each day. Follow her
progress down the Mississippi, and join us in
celebrating her remarkable spirit of adventure.
With 4,000 more miles on her odometer, Maiya
returns to High Point mid August.

Roaming Dial-Up Service
When Maiya was planning her extended solo driving
trip down the Missisippi River this summer, she
wanted to have a way to stay in touch with family
and friends, research travel options around the next
bend and update her blog regularly. For those
small-town spots where wireless Internet access
wasn’t an option, she decided on a simple solution:
roaming dial-up access.
There are a number of services that can keep you
connected on the road. Maiya is going with
BamNet.
BamNet provides dial-up Internet access by the
minute, with pre-paid minutes that never expire.
Local access numbers are available for just about
anywhere you might find yourself – and a toll-free
number for those even more remote locations. She
still keeps her eyes peeled for Wi-Fi zones, but it’s
nice to have options.

The Legend of Oz
The name for Oz in The Wizard of Oz was
thought up when the creator, Frank Baum, looked at
his filing cabinet and saw A-N and O-Z – hence “Oz.”
At least that’s what Baum said. But don’t take his
word for it. Check out other Oz theories at Snopes.com –
the helpful source for dispelling urban legends.

Crowdsourcing
In a recent Wired article, writer Jeff Howe
defined crowdsourcing as "the new pool of cheap
labor: everyday people using their spare cycles to
create content, solve problems, even do corporate
R & D." The article mentions a Web site called
iStockphoto.com. What does this mean for you?
The next time you want fantastic stock photography
for your corporate brochure ... or your silly birthday
party invitation ... you can get it for just a few
dollars. Yes, just $1 for a Web-ready photo or $10 for
an extra large full-page bleed. Save the day and the
budget with photos taken by real, talented people –
just like you.

Red24 - When Fashion is Your Game!
“Wow! Where’d you get that?!” That’s the reaction
when people see these high-fashion sports purses
styled and crafted just like a football, basketball or
soccer ball. Red24
by ET TU asked High Point Creative to develop the
copy for their new e-commerce Web site aimed at
women who love fashion and sports and want to
stand out from the crowd.
American Medical Systems (AMS)
There are many surgical meshes on the market that
are used to correct female urinary incontinence. But
only mesh from
AMS features a patented tensioning suture
designed to give physicians more control over the
placement and tension of the mesh. AMS needed to
increase awareness among physicians of this unique
feature, and so they looked to High Point Creative for
help with the copy. Collaboration between AMS, Peggy Lauritsen
Design and High Point Creative resulted in a
brochure that is visually engaging and rich in content.
We also developed talking points for sales
representatives as a companion piece.
