We do not remember days; we remember moments.
Cesare Pavese

Like all great travelers, I have seen more than I remember, and remember more than I have seen.
Benjamin Disraeli

I'm always fascinated by the way memory diffuses fact.
Diane Sawyer

Kate’s laptop needs more memory. (Now there’s a concept that wouldn’t have made sense 30 years ago!) How enviable ... a simple upgrade (simple for Christina, not Kate) and it’s all power, power, power. Human memory requires a more complex tune up, and evidently late nights and caffeine aren’t part of the solution. Thank goodness for PDAs and other gadgets that remember those everyday items for us.

Here’s to remembering the truly important things ... like those who’ve died in the service of our country. Hope your Memorial Day is memorable and you enjoy the warmth of spring.

TRY THIS

Scrapbooking
You’re accustomed to paying for creative services like design and copywriting in business. But how about paying somebody to put together your family photo album? Various “scrapbooking for hire” services now let you farm out the process of assembling your photographs into a family heirloom scrapbook. For those who dream of the perfect baby book but can’t seem to get around to even printing the pictures out, here’s one local (Twin Cities) solution: Daisy Chain Memories. Maybe next we can hire somebody to take our kids on vacation for us?!

NEWS YOU CAN USE

I Can't Remember My Password
When Christina inventoried all her accounts and passwords, she was surprised to see she had a collection of more than 50. How many passwords do you use in an average day? And how do you keep track of all those passwords securely? You’ve probably tried memorizing them all. You may even have a hard copy list somewhere. Hurray for password management software that uses strong encryption to keep your secret codes safe. Some great (and free!) options include Password Safe for PCs and Password Gorilla for Macs.

If you’d like more tips on passwords, check out The Simplest Security: A Guide to Better Password Practices. One other idea: print a copy of all your accounts and passwords and put it in your safe deposit box. Make sure someone you trust also has access to it, just in case.

HOT POINT

Not Just For Kids
About one-third of American parents admit to playing computer or video games. According to one recent study 36% of the parents who play introduced their children to games, 23% report that their children introduced them.

WORDWISE

Learn a Foreign Language ... On Your iPod
Everywhere you look, people are plugged into their iPods. You may not know it, but they aren’t all rocking out. Some of them are actually learning. Language podcasts are taking off as a fun new way to learn. And why not? You don’t need to sit at a desk or in classroom, all you need is a little time to listen. Slate recently did a review of several language podcasts, including the cheeky Chinesepod . If you’re curious to learn more, try Learn Out Loud or this British list of podcasts for modern foreign languages.

HIGH POINT HIGHLIGHTS

Atomic Props & Effects
Atomic Props & Effects wanted a splashy way to tell clients and prospects about all the spectacular projects their amazing creative team produces. Atomic asked High Point Creative to develop the Atomic Blast, a periodic e-newsletter that provides an insider’s look at what’s taking shape in the shop and highlights news to help clients think big ... literally! The first issue's open and click through rates were excellent, plus 33 people entered the “Pop Quiz” contest.

EFH Co.
High Point Creative wrote Web copy for EFH Co. As part of the discovery process, we interviewed EFH clients and subcontractors, crafted testimonials and added real quotes to the copy. For example, one of their clients said, “I think EFH Co. exemplifies all the good in the construction community. They know how to do their job, and they are great team players.” We just can’t make that stuff up.
