Creating a character on or off the stage is an escape.
Roger Moore

Laughter is an instant vacation.
Milton Berle

Is this not the true romantic feeling – not to desire to escape life, but to prevent life from escaping you?
Thomas Wolfe

Getting away to somewhere warm, relaxing, salt-watery is on many minds this time of year. Bliss is sinking your toes into sand at the exact moment your colleagues are settling in for that weekly whatever meeting. If you aren’t jetting away anytime soon, this On Point is for you – with ideas for mini-getaways. And if you are getting away, you might as well read on. You know you’re too distracted to get any real work done before you leave! Bon voyage whether you stay or go!

TRY THIS

Escape with a Seminar
Professional rejuvenation. How do you get it? One way is to escape your daily work routine and head for a seminar. In town or away, for an hour or a full day, seminars are excellent for broadening your knowledge base, strengthening your skill set and increasing your network of contacts. Two seminars we’re excited about attending are the Email Marketing Summit April 20-21 at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare in Chicago and the Marketing to Women Conference May 8-9 at the Chicago Cultural Center. Escape and learn ... you deserve it!

NEWS YOU CAN USE

Favorite Staff Escapes
Angie: The walking/bike path along White Bear Lake is my favorite place for an escape – especially on a warm and sunny day. I can take a quick walk down by the lake and feel like I’m a million miles away.

Christina: I’m a bit of a foreign film junkie, and Netflix provides me with some excellent, exotic escapes. One of my current favorites is the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex anime series.

Kate: I aim for a good measure of escapades in my escapes. That can mean listening to a band at a great club in Minneapolis, shooting craps in Vegas or body surfing in the ocean. But my favorite escape of all is climbing the foothills of the Matterhorn. Ahh, just thinking about these has been a great escape!

Maiya: One of my favorite local escapes is to spend a few hours browsing in a bookstore. My husband and I often incorporate this into a date night – we’re such geeks!

Melissa: A favorite getaway for me is to bundle up on a cold winter day and take my dogs, Aldo and Leopold, for a very long walk across a frozen lake near our house. They think I walk on water.

WORDWISE

A Matter of Style
Comma before and in a series? Capitalize every word in a title? Sometimes you need to consult an authority and follow the rules. Other times you may want to make your own rules, but be consistent. The AP Online Stylebook can help either way. With a subscription to this service, you have access to continually updated information from the hard copy version of the famous AP Stylebook. You also can customize your own online version. At High Point, our team shares a subscription that allows us to track style preferences for our clients – and for ourselves. For more information, visit the AP Stylebook.

HIGH POINT HIGHLIGHTS

Woodwinds Health Campus
High Point Creative worked with Woodwinds Health Campus to develop a 2006 advertising campaign encouraging area residents to think of Woodwinds as their hospital and seek out physicians who practice there. Their objective: Continue to build brand awareness of this five year-old hospital and its Obstetrics, Orthopedics, Radiology and Emergency services. Using the theme “Care Beyond Compare,” High Point worked with the art directors at Zimmer/Madich to develop a series of ads. These focus on Woodwinds’ unique service philosophy that blends quality and professional expertise with technological innovation and healing arts therapies to treat the whole person.
