There is nothing so annoying as to have two people talking when you're busy interrupting.
Mark Twain

Who speaks, sows;
who listens, reaps.
Argentine Proverb

Such is human psychology that if we don't express our joy, we soon cease to feel it.
Lin Yutang

You’d think that relating would get easier as you get older. After countless conversations we should be experts by now, right? The real experts agree that one key to improving how you relate is improving how well you listen. Consider these three tips from the editors at Communication Briefings: Lead speakers with an occasional “Yes” or “I see.” (Now that’s easy enough.) Lean toward them to show you’re interested. (No problem.) Limit your comments to 20% of the conversation. (Yeah, right. I mean ... tell me more!)

TRY THIS

Found Magazine
Are you curious about the little scraps that make up our daily lives? The editors of Found Magazine certainly are. Finds range from touching apology notes to curse-filled rants, and whether hilarious or sad, each piece reveals the true human experience. Check for a new find every day ... or submit your own!

WORDWISE

Word of the Day
As “word nerds,” we High Pointers are always looking for ways to broaden our lexicon. One favorite trick: Merriam-Webster’s Word of the Day. Each morning, an e-mail arrives highlighting a word, its definition and a brief history of its origin and use. Before you know it, “abulia,” “persiflage” and “ossify” are part of your daily diction. Check it out at www.m-w.com. Look for “Word of the Day” and click "subscribe."

HIGH POINT HIGHLIGHTS

Ridge Training
Can you relate? That’s the tagline that came out of an intensive branding session for Ridge Training. From there, the High Point team developed a strong story that communicated Ridge’s unique method of providing relationship-oriented skills training for sales and service professionals, managers and teams. The result – a comprehensive brochure that Ridge can use to share its message with potential new clients – and a perfect example of our theme this month. To download the full brochure (PDF), check out www.highpointcreative.com/ridge.htm.

Bethesda Hospital
Bethesda Hospital is home to St. Paul’s first Parkinson’s clinic, the Terrance D. Capistrant M.D. Parkinson's Center. To get the word out to residents in St. Paul, Minnesota, and the surrounding area, Bethesda looked to High Point Creative to develop a direct mail piece and advertisement. The campaign highlights the new center as well as Bethesda’s 120-year history and reputation for excellence. You can look at the ad and direct mail piece at www.highpointcreative.com/bethesda.htm
