High Point Holiday Traditions
Angie: Our family looks forward to Christmas
Eve at Grandma’s house. We chat and feast, then
the youngest grandchild plays Santa (with a little
help).
Christina: On Christmas Day, my husband
and I have the Soderstrom and Nguyen families over
for a big dinner that includes American favorites like
turkey and ham plus some Vietnamese treats of
tropical fruit. This year we are also going to try to
make a bûche de Noël (French yule log cake) and
bring in yet another culture.
Kate: Each year, my family spends Christmas
Day at Afton Alps skiing and snowboarding. It gives
me an excuse to wear my furry Santa hat in public.
(My teenagers love that.)
Maiya: I grew up in a German family and still
keep the custom of St. Nicholas day (December 6)
with my own children. Each one puts a shoe in the
window the night before and awakens to find it filled
with small treats.
Melissa: In the days leading up to Christmas,
my sisters and I gather at my mother's to make her
incredibly scrumptious cinnamon rolls. Christmas
morning, we deliver them to longtime family friends,
for whom her cinnamon rolls are a part of their family
tradition.
