If you don't own precious metals, foriegn currency, and commodities in your portfolio then you are not truly diversified. 

 

US and foreign stocks are highly correlated. Meaning that they perform very similarly. This is not beneficial to your account values in the long run because one year where your account goes down 15, 20, 25% causes the amount in the account to be less at the end of your time period. The 100 year average of the US stock market is around 5.25%, with

dividends reinvested, not 10%. The average growth of home prices across the US is 3-6% over a long time period. Please don't be deceived into thinking you stand a prayer to have a 10% compound annual rate of return in your account without being truly diversfied!
