Hotel PAC Contributions
We've had quite a few questions lately about the Hotel PAC that TTIA shares with the Texas Hotel & Lodging Association. Here are some Frequently Asked Questions:
Q1. What exactly is a PAC?
A1. A PAC, or Political Action Committee, is a private group, regardless of size, organized to elect political candidates or to advance the outcome of a political issue or legislation. Funds from a PAC are used to support candidates or issues. The Hotel PAC is used to successfully defend the school start date, avoid new taxes on our industry, preserve state agency funding, and deal with any other new threats to our industry by supporting candidates or elected officials who support the industry.
Q2. I thought my TTIA Dues paid for this type of thing.
A2. TTIA membership dues cannot be used to fund a PAC or political candidates - that is against the law. However, your dues allow TTIA to advocate on behalf of the industry directly with elected officials, which is vitally important. It is also important to contribute to the Hotel PAC because it allows us to directly build a relationship with a candidate who is friendly to our issues.
Our success at the Capitol depends on our relationship with state legislators and other elected officials. We need your help to support Hotel PAC, so in turn we can support those elected officials that help us be so successful on issues such as tourism funding and school start date.
Q3. How can I support the Hotel PAC?
A3. You can contribute to the Hotel PAC by sending a personal check made out to Hotel PAC. Send your contribution to our office at the address above. Please make sure this is a personal contribution. Corporate or organization funds cannot be accepted.
If you have more questions about the Hotel PAC, give us a call! We're happy to help.
