Your Help Is Still Needed For State Tourism Funding

HB1 was voted out of House Appropriations and is scheduled for consideration by the entire House of Representatives beginning April 1. The Senate Finance Committee is scheduled to perform final mark-up this week of SB1, including the budget for state tourism promotion.

If you have not yet called your Legislator about tourism funding, NOW is the time to pick up the phone and make that call. Your support is needed to encourage Legislators to fully fund state tourism advertising and promotion. (read more...)

The Appropriations Committee responded to constituent concerns by adding nearly $1 million to the TX Historical Commission budget earmarked for the Texas Heritage Trails, a program scheduled for termination in HB1 as filed.  (read more...)

Texas Parks & Wildlife is asking the legislature for more flexibility with their budget allowing them to level budget cuts over the two years of the biennium. (read more...)

There are new Talking Points for each of the state agencies on our website.  Visit TTIA's Advocacy section for more information.

Member and Unity Dinner Survey Results

We listen to our members and work diligently to incorporate ideas & suggestions into our programs and services.  Recently, we asked our members to complete surveys on their membership and on Unity Dinner.

To see the topline results of these surveys, click here

We thank everyone who took the time to respond to these two surveys.  Your responses are very valuable and we reviewed them as a team and will review them again as we plan activities that will be of the most value to our members.

Help Bring the Shuttle Home

TTIA supports Space Center Houston's bid to house one of the retiring Space Shuttles, either Endeavor or Atlantis, as part of its permanent display.

While Discovery is bound for the Smithsonian, more than 20 museums across the US are competing for Endeaver or Atlantis.

The Space Shuttle program is a part of Houston's character and identity. NASA Johnson Space Center currently attracts over 750,000 visitors a year and is ranked one of Texas' top tourist attractions.

Securing a space shuttle is estimated to impact the regional economy by $45 million per year as well as generate $29 million in business value and create more than 750 jobs.

The shuttle cannot be secured without your support.  Please visit in order to sign the petition to President Obama to secure a shuttle for Houston.
