Greetings!
Spring has sprung and with that comes cleaning, allergies and the loss of one hour's worth of sleep with Daylight Savings Time. It also brings warmer weather, Easter, fields of Bluebonnets and traveling tourists. In other words, "Spring is nature's way of saying, 'Let's party!'" ~Robin Williams
So, let's party at the annual TTIA Travel Fair in a couple weeks. April 28 & 29 enjoy the sun and warmth of Corpus Christi with our travel counselor friends who provide guidance to nearly four million Texas travelers each year. Your executive committee and board will be attending as well with meetings to continue work on our long term strategic objectives and committee work.
Speaking of committee work, there are exciting things coming from our Membership committee, including student mentoring and diversity initiatives. The TTIA Travel & Tourism College will be June 13-18 at Texas State University in San Marcos, and it continues to develop into a fantastic program not to be missed. "April hath put a spirit of youth in everything" ~William Shakespeare
Our Texas tourism industry has been abuzz with stories of strong room night and attendance numbers at many of our member's establishments. I am sure we can all agree that the recession has been tough on us all, however as Anne Bradstreet wrote, "If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant; if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome." This is all leading to some exciting optimism about the summer ahead. I strongly suggest you share this optimism with your local media partners in hopes of building strong momentum for our industry.
I look forward to seeing you in Corpus Christi later this month.
Sincerely,
Dan Decker TTIA Chair General Manager, SeaWorld San Antonio
