| New Weddings - Sara and Ben |
 |
Sara and Ben were married in the Cortona countryside
at the end of summer. They had a Jewish wedding in
the gardens of a private villa, with aperitifs to
follow around the pool, and the banquet and dancing
under a large marquee into the night.
The couple wished that the event was elegant, the
ceremony formal and meaningful, respecting the
family traditions, while meeting the couples own
beliefs and style.
Sara and Ben also wanted the wedding to match their
creative background, together with Italywedding's
staff, we worked together on floral design, timing,
photography and music, to get the exact feel the
couple wanted, while making the whole event relaxed
and charming for the guests, as well as the wedding
party.
The couple write:
Dear Ben,
First of all, thank you for your help with our
wedding. It was a brilliant day and many people have
said it was the best wedding they had ever been to.
Second, please send a special thank you to Marisa;
her flowers and decorations made it look absolutely
spectacular and it was just as I had hoped it would
be.
I also meant to tell you that in addition to the
outstanding photography, I thought the band was
fabulous. Not only were they great musicians, but
they were a lot of fun, especially the lead singer.
Thanks again for your help with everything.
All our love,
Sara and Ben

| New weddings - Emma and Scott |
 |
Emma and Scott wanted a religious blessing with
family and friends, with an emphasis on the many
children in the wedding party. They chose our
popular weekly villa, Villa
20 as a base for the week, and on the wedding
day we arranged a ceremony in the gardens of the
villa, and the seated meal in the main hall.
September is usually a good month for the weather,
but the couple were not especially lucky! It's
imperative to have a location where solutions are
available for every climatic situation, and in this
case, we advised a marquee, as ceremony, aperitifs,
meal and dancing all require their own spaces.

New for our 2007 newsletter, we are happy to feature
some of our personal favourite weddings from over
the years, starting with...
Madeleine and Scott
September 2005
On their return from their San Gimignano wedding,
the couple wrote:
We can't believe it's all over and we're back to
normality and no more deciding what flowers to have!
What an amazing day you organized for us. It far
exceeded any expectations we had or could imagine.
Every detail was everything we could have hoped for
and we don't know where to begin to start thanking
you. We are just so glad we found Italyweddings and
the most stunning villa and location.
As I am sure you hear so often, the experience of
organizing a wedding abroad by email was daunting to
begin with, but your expertise shone through and the
whole process was made far more enjoyable than we
could have believed.
Your choices in everything were spot on, and
immensely enjoyed and appreciated.
The hairdresser, the mayor of San Gimignano, the
caterers and staff, the classical musicians and the
jazz band were more than perfect. Everyone enjoyed
having the photographer and her husband there as if
they were just two more friends. We enjoyed the
adventures they took us on for the perfect photo!
Marisa dealt with our flower suggestions so
appropriately and I will never forget the sight of
the table arrangements in the candle light.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for
everything you did to make our wedding day so
special, magical and for giving us memories which we
will never forget.
Love,
Scott and Madeleine.

| What's On: Homage to Olive Oil |
 |
Homage to Olive Oil - there are more than 30 small
festivals that are held in countless villages of
these regions from Imperia to Cartoceto (PS), from
Montefalco (PG) to Collerorto (CB) down to Cassano
Murge (BA), during which it's possible to
participate in a guided tour of the olive pressing
process. One can taste newly pressed, virgin olive
oil in it's rarest and most delicious state...just
as it drips from the press.

| Italian sayings about marriage |
 |
Moglie e buoi ...dei paesi tuoi.
Wife and bull ...from your home-town.

In ancient Rome, a loaf of wheat bread was broken
over the heads of the bride and groom to ensure a
fertile and fulfilling life. Guests would eat the
crumbs for good luck.

Sara and Ben's flowers
There are special weddings, and there are occasions
when there is a special feeling between the couple
and our team. Sara had very clear ideas - both the
bride and groom have creative backgrounds, and with
their ideas, and our creativity, we believe a truly
beautiful event was realized.
This couple wanted elegance; white and off whites
and yellows, and simple flowing lines for this late
summer villa wedding. The Chuppah was built with
organza and hydrangeas, and the aisle lined with
thousands of fresh petals. The reception was
illuminated with hundreds of candles of different
sizes, and the grounds lit with citronella torches
marking the pool and pathways.
But your ideas may be different - we advise couples
to look over the site, but also to send us
descriptions, cuttings, links - anything that can
help us visualize exactly what you have in mind.
